Week 2 Power Rankings

With the first weekend of games behind us, we have some MAJOR shakeups in the power rankings!

11. Willson/Dzwonek (-3)
After an absolutely miserable offensive performance vs. an undermanned Team Jarboe, it is hard to be optimistic about this squad's chances of putting together a winning season. It doesn't help their cause that the backcourt duo of James Willson and Stevie D appeared outmatched in every phase of the game. Unless sophomore big man Matt Lamarre can start stringing together MVP-level performances, it'll be difficult for this team to escape from the bottom of the rankings as the season goes on.

10. Townsend (-)
It's difficult to assess this team, as they were missing easily their best player in Kyle Plausse this past Sunday, but nevertheless, these boys struggled to find consistent success on either side of the ball. After a concerning loss to an especially atrocious Keast/Kimetto team, I'm curious to see if their lack of true depth will prove to be a chronic issue or if Plausse's return will catalyze this team's overall performance. More likely than not, however, the presence of Will "Hank" Zinkann in the rotation will just be too much to overcome.

9. Booth/Dorr (-3)
This team got completely smacked by likely league powerhouse Hastings on Sunday, despite having a former varsity stud in Matthew Cota on their roster. Although I'm sure most teams will struggle to compete against Hastings this season, Booth/Dorr's incompetent defensive performance is quite concerning. Unless Cota and his squad can tighten things up defensively, this team is in for a long season.

8. Keast/Kimetto (+3)
Team KK took care of business this week as they should have, as Team Townsend had only five players and were missing both their best and worst players in Kyle Plausse and Will "Hank" Zinkann, respectively. So, not much can be concluded from their performance this week, but we will see how this team progresses and overcomes the impairment of Alex Castellano on the roster.

7. McNamara (-3)
Team McNamara received a healthy dose of Jack Barry and Team Southwick in their debut matchup. What stuck out the most from this game was the lack of chemistry from McNamara's big three. Although Kasey Griffiths had a productive game, this rest of this squad did not seem to be on the same page. McNamara will look to build upon their Week 1 performance as they take on Team Sellers (who has yet to play) this Sunday.

6. Jarboe (+3)
Jarboe looked exceptional this week, with a tremendous display of ball movement and defense, all without the presence of Andrew Watkins. With several DPOY candidates on the roster, this team's debut showed that they are a force to be reckoned with. However, teams look better than they really are when they play weaker teams, and more can be said about the struggles of Team Willson from this game than the dominance of Team Jarboe. A repeat of last week's performance in Week 2 would surely silence all doubts about Team Jarboe and would launch them into the top of the ranks.

5. Manzi/Boudreau (-3)
It was a disappointing performance from Manzi/Boudreau this past weekend to say the least. Team leader Sam Boudreau looked sluggish, while Bradley teDuits was rather ineffective on both sides of the ball. The talent on this team, however, is too apparent for them to drop too far in the rankings. If Boudreau can work himself into shape over the next couple weeks and metamorphosize into the MVP-level performer he has been in the past, look for Manzi/Boudreau to recover quickly from their shocking Week 1 loss.

4. Sellers (-1)
This team didn't play this week so not much to say here. I had to drop them down a spot due to the exceptional performance of some other teams.

3. Strauss (+2)
Team Strauss came out with a lot of energy right from the jump. Their youth and defensive tenacity was on full display, and was key in putting the clamps on some of Team Manzi/Boudreau's best players. Sophomore big Jack Blount had himself an impressive performance, solidifying himself as a force to be reckoned with. This team's scrappy mentality will keep them at the winning end of games more often than not this season.

2. Southwick (+5)
Questions were floating around the league concerning whether or not Team Southwick's young cast would be able to deliver this season. This past week, those questions were answered. Sophomore demigod, Jack Barry, efficiently lead this team to a big Week 1 win against Kasey Griffiths and Team McNamara. Contributions came from all across the board as Devon Crandall banked in 4 threes and solid defense was played all around. Let's not forget that this team was missing vital players, Riley Curran and Lil YungDad.

1. Hastings (-)
This squad looks scary good already. The superstar backcourt pairing of Chris Smith and Max Phanord accounted for nearly 50 combined points in a dominating win vs. Booth/Dorr. With the offensive output I witnessed from this team on Sunday, I think it will be a tall task for anyone to take them down. Expect Hastings at #1 to be a mainstay this season.
