Playoff Predictions 2

Round 1

Game 1 Coveno 45 vs Modzeleswki 32
At times this season Coveno has competed with the best of the league.  At other times they have struggled to score.  Modzeleswki has had difficulties all year in the second half, most notably their blowout loss to Dorff in which they scored two baskets in 16 minutes.  If Carl and Will can make their shots team Modzeleswki will have a shot at this game.  If not Coveno will run away with it in the second half.

Game 2 Gingras 41 vs Transfaglia 34
Gingras won the first matchup in a defensive performance.  Jimmy was held to zero points and the rest of the team could not overcome it.  If this were to happen again Jason Pang will need to start making three's to keep this a close game.  Gingras will need to control the paint and use their size to prevent offensive rebounds, should Pang start making his shots, as they no longer have the services of Connor "Glass Knees" Johnson.

Game 3 Booth 42 vs Mitchell 37
These two teams have been going in opposite directions all season long.  Mitchell started off at the top of the preseason rankings and has since plummeted due to their lack of teamwork.  Meanwhile Booth has established themselves as a legitimate contender and should be able to get the win over a struggling Mitchell.

Game 4 Hecht 43 vs Tornaritis 42
This game is entirely dependent upon whether Dean plays or not.  With Dean team Tornaritis can compete for a championship.  Without him there are questions if they can even put up 25.  Team Hecht relies too much on the outside shots.  When they can hit them there is no team they can't play with, but once they start missing their entire team struggles.  Team Tornaritis will go one-and-done as they attempted to defend their title.

Round 2

Game 5 Werner 63 vs Coveno 57
After a nice win in round 1 Coveno will come in feeling like they can take on the world.  Unfortunately for them Werner plans on winning it all and they are just a speed bump in the way.  Coveno will keep it close through shear hustle and work but once it is crunchtime Werner will do what they have all year and ride Justin as he makes two threes to put the game away.

Game 6 Gingras 46 vs Dawson 32
Due to Team Dawson's youth and inexperience they won't be able to handle the pressure that comes with rec playoffs and the one thing that kept them winning games will start to fail them.  Dylan Dawson and Will Manzi will go 4 for 20 from beyond the arc while Team Gingras won't even attempt 4.  Instead Gingras will win through domination of the paint as Griffin Lily shows who is the rookie of the year and Jack Battles puts two of his brothers in their place.

Game 7 Gavel 61 vs Booth 56
Team Booth will come out firing on all cylinders as Ben Wadden and Jacob Hickman start the game off with a pair of threes each.  However, Team Gavel will take the lead in the second half and not look back as they cruise into the semifinals.

Game 8 Dorff 57 vs Hecht 44
Team Dorff will put an end to Team Hechts attempt to win it all as the 12 seed.  The Flying Femias will control all aspects of the game after Toner is ejected in the first half with two technicals.  Hecht will make a late comeback but will ultimately have too much to overcome.

Semifinal

Game 9 Werner 41 vs Gingras 38
This is the matchup we at the blog have been wanting to see from the day that Justin Watt was added to Werner.  This game will be a battle of the paint as Gabe and Justin take on Griffin and Jack.  With Jacob Hertog on Chris Werner this game is going to be decided by the other players on the teams.  Ultimately it will come down to Nick "Shutdown" Boggiano stealing the ball as Gingras tries for the game winner, passing it to Chris who will propel Justin's team to the RecBall Championship with a half court buzzer beater.

Game 10 Gavel 57 vs Dorff 36
Gavel will lead this game from the tipoff as Dorff just doesn't have the height or speed to compete with them.  The Gavels will combine to score more than all of team Dorff as they take their team to its first ever championship.

Championship

Game 11 Werner 49 vs Gavel 38
Werner will complete what every high school basketball player wants to achieve before they graduate, win a RecBall Championship.  And they will do it in resounding fashion.  Team Werner will use their size to control the paint, speed to control the perimeter, and heart to control the game.  Gavel will try and claw their way back into the game but Justin will stomp it out as he takes control in the final 4 minutes and scores 15 to put the game out of reach and secure the victory which eluded them last year.

Playoff Predictions

Round 1

Game 1 Coveno 52 vs Modzeleswki 44
Team Coveno won the first match up between these two teams, and we expect them to repeat the performance. Despite early season struggles team Coveno turned their season around and looks poised for a playoff run. Modezeleswki has been inconsistent at best and with Aidan "peg leg" Hoey looking worse every week, they should look forward to an early exit.

Game 2 Transfaglia 35 vs Gingras 30
The first match-up was won by Gingras in a dominating defensive performance, in which superstar Jimmy T Transfaglia was held to zero points. While team Gingras has remained dominant defensively, the loss of Connor "glass knees" Johnson (to a dislocated knee) severely crippled this teams offense.   I think that Transfaglia will win this low scoring affair.

Game 3 Mitchell 55 vs Booth 40
Mitchell won the first meeting between these two teams, and I don't think it will be difficult for them to replicate that performance. Mitchell has struggle this year but has the talent to play well, and with the confidence from the first win, they will over power team Booth. I think Booth has over achieved to this point, and will fail to move past the first round.

Game 4 Hecht 40 vs Tornaritis 32
Tornaritis has been spectacular when Dean is on the court and dismal when he isn't. Based off the information that Dean is still concussed and will not be playing , I think team Hecht has the ability to win that game. Without Dean team Tornaritis will not have the ability to score enough to win the game.

Round 2

Game 1 Werner 65 vs Coveno 45
Werner won the first meeting, and dominantly wins the second meeting. While Coveno plays well in the first half, Team Werner's height over powers them in the second half. However after the game news breaks, and Justin Watt is suspended for the rest of the season for his PED use.

Game 2 Dawson 75 vs Transfaglia 55
Team Transfaglia put the beat down on Team Dawson, and comes into this game very over confident. Team Dawson shoots lights out from behind the 3-point line and puts up the most points in any game this season. After the game everyone is shocked to find out Team Dawson replaced Dylan with a sloth, and the sloth is named baller of the week.

Game 3 Gavel 55 vs Mitchell 40
After playing well in the first playoff game, team Mitchell implodes. By the end of the game Billy snaps, starts screaming at his teammates, making the middle Forbes child look mild mannered. After the game Darren "allstar' Costa says they would've been champions if his mother was allowed to coach.

Game 4 Hecht 40 vs Dorff  39
Team Dorff takes a 15 point lead into to halftime and its confident they will come away with the win. However in the second half team Dorff is too tired to keep playing due to over practicing during the season. Hecht makes a comeback win.

Round 3

Game 1 Hecht 45 vs Werner 43
With Justin Watt serving his PED suspension Team Werner has no ones coattail to ride, and can't handle team Hecht's press. Chris starts crying on the court before the game ends, and after the game admits that the whole team was using PEDs.

Game 2 Gavel 66 vs Dawson 50
The sloth continues to play in place of Dylan, and continues to play well. However Gavel's height is too much and they pull out the win.

Championship
Hecht (W)  Gavel (L)
All of team Gavel oversleeps and misses the game, they are forced to forfiet the game. Team Hecht is crowned league champion.

I don't know who won the other games, so if people could comment who won and scores that would be helpful. As I was away and don't know what happened there will be no power rankings this week, but extensive pre-playoff rankings will be released after the games this week are played.

Week 8 Score Predictions

Coveno vs Gingras
51-40
I know some people have had doubts about this Coveno team, but just for the record, I have been a massive team Coveno supporter throughout the whole season. Last week we got to see Coveno's true potential. They kept a close game against the league favorites and they also kept their whining to a minimal. Team Jack battles might have a hard time covering every player on this Coveno roster.

Dawson vs Booth
54-39
At the beginning of the season, we had high expectations for team Booth when they strung together a couple of wins. But now, I just forget that they are still in the league. If that Booth kid keeps thinking he's Steph Curry, then they will clearly continue to struggle. Dawson's strengths include speedy guards (not Dylan) and good three shooters (Dylan) where Booth's main talent (Alan Robinson), is a big man who might not be able to defend such guards.

Dorff vs Hecht
48-36
Dorff seems to be a sneaky powerhouse in this league. Beating team Tranfaglia was a statement. Earlier this week, I caught up with Owen Torgerson (one of team Hecht's bench players) and he asked me "How many more weeks do I have to suffer?" Well Owen, the answer is forever my friend. Once a Hecht, always a Hecht.

Modelewski vs Werner
56-46
Modzelewski finally won a game last week! Congrats! All season, I've been hearing from Aidan "Peg leg" Hoey, that they have the best shot at guarding team Werner's twin towers. That's if he can make it up and down the court and if Mitch shows up to the game. Lets see if he's right.

Tranfaglia vs Tornaritis
50-48
This will be a great battle between Dean and team Tranfaglia. It will be a close game, because playing against team Tranfaglia is like playing against six people on the court. Mr. Tranfaglia is virtually one of the players when he and Jimmy bicker.

Gavel vs Mitchell
60-38
I just don't see team Mitchell having the drive, heart, and the passion to win anymore games. Some players are even questioning the coaching staff (Darren Costa). It honestly breaks my heart to see a team with so much potential, just go down the drain due to the lack of leadership.

Week 7 Power Rankings

1. Team Werner- (-) Team Werner won again. Rumors of PED use continue to swirl around them, we are still waiting for someone from their team to comment. They look to be the heavy favorite going into the playoffs, hopefully someone can figure out a way to beat them.
2. Team Tornaritis- (-) Dean led  the way in scoring, but the rest of the team picked up the scoring slack. That team play makes them even more dangerous for the playoffs.
3. Team Dawson- (-) They only shoot 3 pointers, and are currently making a high percentage. However that is an unreliable way to win games. If they have one off game during the playoffs, their season will end shorter than they hoped.
4. Team Dorff- (-) They remain balanced and playing well together. That type of play is good for getting regular season wins, but as playoff time comes around they could be in trouble.
5. Team Booth- (+1) Despite losing they played much better than anyone thought they would against Tornaritis. This team has been surprising everyone all season long, and could be underestimated as they head into the playoffs.
6. Team Transfaglia- (-1) They have similar balance to team Dorff, but after losing to Dorff, we question how much firepower they actually have. They'll have to play well closing out the season in order for us to have any faith in them during the playoffs.
7. Team Gingras- (-) A third straight loss and it's clear this team is lacking depth. Jack isn't doing enough to carry his team, and the other players aren't stepping up. If they get in the right place they could give Werner some trouble in the playoffs.
8. Team Gavel- (+1) They are beginning to show some consistency and that bodes well for them. If they get the right match ups they could go far.
9. Team Coveno- (-1) Their hustle wasn't enough to take down the top team in the league, but their strong play gives them promise of being a playoff sleeper.
10. Team Modzelewski- (+2) This team showed their ability to win shorthanded. However a lack a scrimmage time in practice has led us to question how game ready their players will be in the future.
11. Team Mitchell- (-1) This team has almost bottomed out. A preseason pick to rise to the top appears very wrong. There is major dissent between teammates, Billy Mitchell on one had stated "I'm the teams MVP, everyone else is overrated, and they need to give me the ball." I think that really shows his frustration with his teammates. However Darren Costa took it one step further saying " I think the Mitchell's are the problem with this team, Billy is very selfish he only wants the ball." He also complained about his playing time he told me in an interview "I know I have what it takes to be a great player. I think my mom should be the coach, then I'd get the minutes I deserve."
12. Team Hecht- (-1) The future doesn't look bright for team Hecht. We try our best but don't succeed. Hopefully in the future our shots will start to fall and we'll win one more game.

Baller of the Week

Once again everyone who won failed to outplay Dean Tornaritis.  So for hopefully the last time he gets the title of Baller of the Week.  He had 28 points in a narrow 2 point win over Booth.  The honorable mentions go to Jack Battles with 24 in a loss to Gavel and Jack Joyce with 21 in a win over Hecht.
