Week 5 and 6 Combined Power Rankings

1. Team Werner- (-) These last two weeks really showed team Werner's versatility. A dominating win over team Dawson, while missing their best player in Justin Watt, really showed this teams less talented players ability to scrap and fight for wins. A close high scoring win over team Gavel, really showed their ability to ride Justin's coattails. Once Justin was added to team Werner's roster they have become unstoppable, his super star play is what makes this team great. Everyone on the team should thank him for saving them, without him they would be nothing.

2. Team Tornaritis- (-) They rebounded nicely from back to back losses, by solidly winning back to back games. They will continue to win and lose based on how well Dean plays, if teams can find a way to stop him, they will struggle.

3. Team Dawson- (+3) They went a solid 1-1 being beat badly by Werner, but beating Team Gingras. They are tied for the best record in the league, and despite apparent mismatches they are able to win games. If teams continue to underestimate them, then team Dawson will continue winning.
4. Team Dorff- (-) We still feel they deserve to be a top 5 team, however after going 1-1 we are unsure how they will finish. They have lost some of their early season scoring firepower, and appear to be trying to rely on playing a defensive game. If they want to start winning they should work harder to be balanced in practice.
5. Team Transfaglia- (-) They have the ability to be dominant, if they can play well together. They are still struggling to play as a team, going 1-1. Perhaps less complaining about not getting foul calls could help this team win.
6. Team Booth- (+3) They looked impressive over the last 2 games going 2-0. We were ready to give up on them after they lost 2 in a row. They bounced back nicely and are also tied for the best record in the league. If they continue to win games, they'll climb back to the top of the league.
7. Team Gingras- (-4) They have played bad in back to back games, and after Connor's glass knees finally shattered the future for this team looks bleak. It appears that Jack Battles has been trying to do to much and needs to spread the ball around to his teammates if they are going to win.
8. Team Coveno- (+3) Congratulations on their 3 game win streak. This shows they might not be walked over after all. While they haven't beaten the most impressive teams, they have played well. If they continue to hustle they might win a few more games.
9. Team Gavel- (+3) They are still very inconsistent and can't win more than 1 game in a row. That being said they played Werner as close as anyone all year, while missing their tallest player in Zach Gavel. They could be Werner's kryptonite if they meet in the playoffs.
10. Team Mitchell- This team has self- destructed over the past 2 weeks. Perhaps it's Nates fault. perhaps it's not, but it probably is. Nobody is playing well, and there own team members are turning on each other, Darren Costa was quoted as saying "I've given up hope on our team, I don't think we'll win another game."
11. Team Hecht- We've been an unimpressive 0-2 over the past 2 games. Our lack of height was exposed by Coveno, as we failed to get any rebounds against them. I wasn't at the last game, but have been informed the game was more lopsided than the score was. Hopefully we can find our shooting stroke and start making 3s to win some more games.
12. Team Modzelewski- They can't do anything right this season, and it seems their terrible performance in week 2 has been holding them back. Hopefully they can get focused and win a few more games before the season ends.

Baller of the Week

The title of Baller of the Week has been reclaimed by Dean Tornaritis after he took a brief break of either not scoring or scoring but losing.  He had 36 points in a victory over Gingras and could not miss a shot if he had tried.  The honorable mention goes to Dylan Dawson for dropping 5 threes in the last 5 minutes against Werner.

Week 5 Score Predictions

Werner vs Dawson
54-43
Yeah team Werner seems to be unstoppable, but what’s their weak spot? This week we’ll see if team Dawson can find it. And, I feel like I say this every week, but team Werner’s height should win the game for them.
Modzelewski vs Gavel
48-42
At this point, I think I have been overrating team Gavel. Given both these teams are struggling to string together a win, I think it’s only fair to predict a loss for Gavel. They somehow let former bottom of the table, team Coveno, beat them. At least Modzelewski lost to a reasonable team.
Forbes vs Dorff
44-38
As shown in last week's games, both teams clearly have problems with scoring and letting up points. I’m predicting Forbes to win, because they probably have figured out that leaving a man wide open, wouldn’t give up as many points as having Eric Tupua cover them.
Gingras vs Tornaritis
51-40
Tornaritis only lost this past week, because team Werner has scorers. Gingras does not. Plus who’s going to stop Dean from dropping another 30 points? Connor “frail knees” Johnson? I don’t think so.
Booth vs Tranfaglia
55-36
Clearly team Tranfaglia has a new star in Scott “the scoring machine” Rubeski. This past week, Booth showed that they are on the downfall. It’s not the score that bothers me, It’s the fact that they lost to team Hecht. Very disappointed Booth, very disappointed.
Coveno vs Hecht
45-42
Here at Rec Ball HQ, I am ecstatic that these two teams are actually winning… well, not for long. Sadly one of these two teams will lose and they will go back to their old ways. Coveno abusing the employees at Rec Ball HQ or team Hecht running until they throw up. I’m just hoping Shaq Bettencourt can throw down another monster week.

Week 4 Power Rankings

1. Team Werner- (+1)After an impressive win over former number 1 Tornaritis, I don't think anyone would argue with this team being at the top of the rankings. The twin towers of Gabe Dingleberry and Justin Watt have played extremely well together in their first two games together. With only one team in the league that can match their height, Team Werner looks to be the favorite in the rest of their games. Despite allegations of P.E.D use by some of their players, Team Werner is still the best in the league.

2. Team Tornaritis- (-1) Back to back losses for team Tornaritis and while some people think they should be ranked lower, a team with Dean will be difficult to move out of the top 5. With Dean averaging about 30 points a game, it will be up to some else to step up and carry part of the scoring load. Perhaps Jack "crazy legs" O'Neil will be able to make enough plays to get them back on track.

3. Team Gingras- (+1) They absolutely dominated team Dorff this week holding them to 6 first half points. Team Gingras is beginning to show some of the defensive prowess expected at the beginning of the season. While their offensive output is still on the low side, their defense should allow them to continue to win games.

4. Team Dorff (-1) Despite an abysmal first half performance and taking an overall beat down from Team Gingras, we still see them as the most balanced team in the league. With Joey Femia missing (Andy wouldn't have affected the game) the game would have been much closer. I think by not showing up Joey was protesting the lack of drills during practice, and hope to see team Dorff get back to working hard in practice.

5. Team Transfaglia- (+2) We said this team needed to get their offense back in gear so Scott lit up team Mitchell, and showed there are many players who can score on this team. If in next weeks game Scott can manage half the points he scored this week team Transfaglia should be in for another win.

6. Team Dawson- (+3) They are tied for the best record in the league and look like they are going to keep winning, so we have no choice but to move them up. This team showed the even have some depth with Dylan "sloth" Dawson failing to put up his usual output, Sam Boudreau scoring 18. If Team Dawson can continue their balanced scoring they could be dangerous in the future.

7. Team Mitchell- (-3) Well it looks like they finally imploded, only managing a measly 29 points. Team Mitchell looks like they could be spiraling out of control. Unless they can get it together (we'd recommend group therapy sessions) they could end up in the bottom of the league.

8. Team Hecht- (+3) We've been all over the map this season playing very well sometimes, and other times I'm not sure if we're still playing basketball. Against team Booth we were at are best making a high percentage of threes, along with making smart defensive plays. If we can continue to play like that, I can see us continuing to rise in the rankings.

9. Team Booth- (-3) Well after watching them up close we were unimpressed. While they were short their tallest player in Allen Robinson, we don't think he would've made a significant impact. They have shown potential with a few early season wins, however they need to deal with their recent struggles if they are going to turn their season around.

10. Team Modzeleswki- (-2) When at their best the can compete with the best in the league, however their inconsistency has me questioning how good they are. While the were missing Mitchell Townsend this week, they still haven't been able to maintain a high level of play consistently, and until we see this they won't be climbing in the rankings.

11. Team Coveno (+1) It was a toss up between these last two team, the reason they moved up is they had a slightly harder strength of schedule, and won the head to head match up. That being said we think Gavel is probably better, and Coveno should return to the bottom quickly.

12. Team Gavel- (-2) The reason they're here is the lost to Coveno, I mean come on get it together. We think Team Gavel has talent, and if they can be more consistent they should rise out of the bottom.

Week 4 Score Predictions

Tranfaglia vs Mitchell
49-42
Talking to Jimmy Tranfaglia this week, it was reported that he said “yeah it’s gonna be an easy win...if anything goes wrong, my dad will make sure we win.” Now if I were on team Mitchell and I heard this, I’d be livid. This should be an incentive for Mitchell to rally the troops and beat Tranfaglia.
Dawson vs Modzelewski
46-39
Yeah Dawson compiled a total of 60 points last week, big whoop. Dylan is not as good as Shane was in his rec ball prime… RIP. Also, Carl Zimmon put up a career high 29 points last week against Dean Tortellini who is more than capable of guarding the speedy point guard. This may be the decider... who will be able to shut down Modzelewski’s explosive offense?
Gingras vs Dorff
48-40
Dorff is going to be missing half the flying femia brothers, that is the good half. Joey is one of the few scorers on the team, and now he will be leaving it all up to old timer Anthony Lovezzola to put in the points. Also, team Dorff lacks height, which is Gingras’s only strong point.
Gavel vs Coveno
62-40
Team Coveno has yet to prove themselves for a winning prediction. This score prediction might really bother team Coveno, and hopefully they can concentrate their (Zach’s) anger on the game and not the poor workers here at Rec Ball HQ.
Hecht vs Booth
50-44
Booth started off the season pretty strong, but have been on the down fall over the past couple weeks. For Hecht to be in this game, they will need a monster game from their star player Samuel “Shaquille O'Neal” Bettencourt and possibly a little help from the slacker (Owen Torgerson).
Werner vs Tornaritis
51-45
At this point in the season, I can’t say anything negative about team Werner. Overall a solid team! Except for the lack of dedication from players like Nicholas Boggiano who skipped practice. One of team Tortellini’s overrated players (Jack O’Neil) won’t be present, hurting the team’s chances even more than before. If I were the coach of this team, I’d be questioning the lack of dedication from him, and maybe suspend him a game or two.

Week 3 Power Rankings

1. Team Tornaritis- (-) Despite this team losing, we don't seem a team is better. Dean is still dominant and shouldn't struggle to score. If he can avoid fouling out in the future they should be able to regain their winning ways.

2. Team Werner- (+4) They got their first win of season, and it was against their toughest opponent to date. They teams twin towers were dominant combing for 30+ points and maintaining a defensive presence similar to what we expected from preseason favorite Gingras. They managed this without Chris Werner, and while he doesn't add much, he still helps the team some, and his return should make them difficult to beat. This team should take over as the number one team soon.

3. Team Dorff- (-1) This team is still average at everything they do, and in rec basketball that's a winning formula. They have no real weaknesses and will struggle against team with clear strengths  such as Werners height. They are balanced enough to remain in the top half of the league, and expect them to be a top 4 seed heading into the playoffs.

4. Team Gingras- (+1) They managed another win, however this team has looked all together unimpressive. Their guard play has struggled and need to pick up their level of play in order to continue winning. Unfortunately for Team Gingras their championship hopes ride on the rest of the league. Their big men are now obsolete, in order for them to win a championship someone will need to knock out Werner early in the playoffs.

5. Team Mitchell- (+2) This team won again against a Booth team that has been playing well. We feel the emergence of this team can be contributed to this team having good chemistry. While we at first thought they might struggle with this, we expect the unity comes for a shared fear of Quintin's brother and his abusiveness. Perhaps together they can get him to admit he has a problem, or at least share some beneficial anger management techniques. If they can't properly manage him they may struggle to maintain a winning streak.

6. Team Booth- (-3) This team crashed back down to earth after playing well in their first two games, they struggled against a clearly superior Mitchell team. We are unsure of this team despite playing well in their games, nothing they have done has give us much confidence in their ability to keep winning. After some first hand observation this week we expect to have a handle on where this team will go for the rest of the season.

7. Team Transfaglia (-3) We've had high hopes for this team since the season started, however those are quickly fading. This team really struggled offensively in their last game as Gingras's defense clearly over powered them, Jimmy was held to a whopping 0 points. If this team can't get their offense back in gear they are going to continue their free fall to the bottom of the league.

8. Team Modzeleswki- (+3) This team had an impressive win over the best team in the league, and unfortunately we now don't know what to do with them. They've played well in two games, but also have the worst performance in rec history on their record. We want to move them up higher, but we have to see more consistency in order to prove that "game" was a fluke. If they continue to play well they could possibly move back into the top half of the league.

9. Team Dawson- (-1) Despite their back to back wins they lost to us, so we have no confidence moving them up higher in the rankings. Dylan "sloth" Dawson has somehow emerged as one of the leagues top scorers, and if he keeps up his level of play this team will eventually have to move up in the rankings.

10. Team Gavel- (-1) They got their first win if the season! It was against us though so they will not be climbing the rankings after that. However they did look to be a solid team all the way through similar to team Dorff, with even more of an upside. If they can start to string wins together they should move up into the top half of the league and retain their preseason status.

11. Team Hecht- We try really hard and have fun and that's what is important. That being said we were clearly over matched by Gavel's size, and they aren't close to the tallest team in the league. Smarter defensive play and making a lot of threes are our only hope to rise up in the league.

12. Team Coveno- (-) Still without a win this team looks to be a pushover. We are not saying we've given up on them, but we aren't saying we believe in them either. This team has played okay in their first two games, but failed to establish an offensive identity. The only thing we can say defensively for them is that Coveno is really loud, and coaches usually say be loud on defense so that's one thing they're doing right. Unfortunately that doesn't win games and we expect them to be one of the bottom 2 seeds come playoff time.

Baller of the Week

A long overdue Baller of the Week goes to Carl Zimmon for scoring 29 in a win over the previous back-to-back Baller of the Week Dean Tornaritis.  He controlled the game from start to finish and helped his team rebound from a crushing loss the week before.  The honorable mention goes to Dylan Dawson for scoring 20 in a win over Coveno.
