Strauss vs. Gingras
60-44
I've been told this Strauss team doesn't win pretty, well that seemed like a pretty game to me. Team Gingras didn't play like a team that lost by 17, it was more of just great ball movement and true team play from Team Strauss that led them to the win. Also S/O to Om Naik who got on the scoreboard today and his best game so far this season.
Manzi vs. Meyers
61-27
I mean was anyone expecting any different? Maybe less a blowout, but when a winless team without a few of their players and an almost fully loaded undefeated team matchup, this is usually what the score looks like.
Booth vs. Bernard/Hastings
36-32
At halftime coach after a 10 point deficit Coach Booth told me "It's okay we're always better in the second half" and she wasn't wrong. They battled back and tied it up with two minutes left. Team Bernard though stayed calm and composed and through some really strong hustle plays, were able to stop the comeback kids from a comeback.
TeDuits/Estes vs. Hecht
54-28
The Dan DeBinder loss was really big for Team Hecht. It really wasn't the exciting team we've seen for the past two weeks so I'm hoping they can find their mojo back. As for Team TeDuits/Estes, they really played a solid game top to bottom. This is exactly what they needed to turn things around.
Zolomon vs. O'Wiley
65-59 (OT)
Easily the game of the year to this point. O'Wiley came back from 13 points down to send this game into overtime. Then Sam Budreau decided he wasn't done going off in regulation and went off a little more in overtime. Team Zolomon played a far better game than last week, but in the end Team O'Wiley gutted it out
Southwick vs. McNamara
54-42
Wasn't able to see this game, but from all indications Elias really balled out and ran away with this one. McNamara seemed to be improving but they got bested to solid team this week.

Baller of the Week 5
Baller of the Week
Winner: Sam Budreau - 34 Points, game tying shot with 7 seconds left, OT win. Yeah he played okay. Crazy game for Sam leading his team to a 13 point comeback and a huge win for them through late game heroics. Well done
Runner up: Elias Jiser - He scored 27 off of some really hot shooting. He shared the ball as well and played a very complete game. Baring the ridiculous of Sam, he would have been the clear the choice, and would have gotten it pretty much every other week, so take this as "Honorable Runner-Up"
Honorable Mentions: Ok get ready because there are a lot, y'all balled out.
Jack Blount: 17 Points, a lot of rebounds, and a few really tough finishes
Max Phonard: 20 Points, along with some great passes and a few deep threes
Kasey Griffiths: 19 points in a domiantion
Kyle Plausse: Followed up his star powered day with 16 more
Eddie Hastings: 15 Points and two unbelievably clutch rebounds
Garrett Solomon: 16 Points and a crazy deep clutch three

Comparing Every Rec Ball Team to A 17-18 NBA Team
To offer my condolences for being late on the power rankings, here's a little something just for fun.
Strauss - Detroit Pistons: They play great defense, but below average offense. Very team reliant and chemistry built and they are capable of beating anyone and losing to anyone. Sometimes they win ugly, but they get the job done more often than not.
Bernard/Hastings - Philadelphia 76ers: They don't blow teams and they don't get blown out, they play to the level of their competition and rebound the ball well. They struggle a little with chemistry right now but they're starting to figure it out.
Zolomon - Minnesota Timberwolves: They have the star power and the tools to be great, they just aren't really utilizing them to their full potential yet. They can and will be lethal if they can figure themselves out.
TeDuits/Estes - Washington Wizards: They have the tools and pieces to be dominant and they've shown flashes of what they can be, but they haven't put it all together yet.
Booth - San Antonio Spurs: It's kind of hard what exactly they're doing right, they just kind of are. The elite team play and great rebounding carries them to success.
Manzi - Houston Rockets: They play really well together and they are only one of few teas that plays great both sides of the ball. Understandable based on how they are playing on why they are on the top of the league.
McNamara - Miami Heat: On the defensive end they look fine, great even. It's just their struggling on offense right now and trying to figure their identity right now and how they are going to win games.
O'Wiley - Denver Nuggets: Despite missing a star, they are still able to work with what they have on a weekly basis, and are able to play solid despite having to deal with missing people on the court.
Gingras - Oklahoma City Thunder: They're playing solid, and they have the roster to succeed, but in the early going they have kind of underwhelmed.
Southwick - Portland Trail Blazers: Very reliant on shooting, and it all depends on which teams shows up to determine their success. They have a different identity week to week, and while slightly underwhelming, they are showing flashes of success.
Meyers - New Orleans Pelicans: Powered by their star players, they've played okay, but they haven't won the amount of games they should. The depth they have will have to step up in order for them to be long term successful.
Hecht - Indiana Pacers: Despite the slow start, they have found a niche and are starting to play great as a team. They can attack teams weaknesses as well hide their own through solid play on both ends of the floor.
Majkut - Milwaukee Bucks: They're big, and they play big. Andrew Berube shares a lot of similarities to Giannis Antetokounmpo, and they win the games they're supposed to lose and lose the games they're supposed to win.

Week 5 Power Rankings
Power Rankings
I do apologize for the delay, I've been surprisingly busy this week, but this shouldn't come out this late in the future, and anyway here you go. Shoutout to Jake Willard for giving me the idea to put records in the power rankings. I'm open to all suggestions and would love to hear them.
13. McNamara (-)
Record: 1-2
This team wasn't able to gain any ground in the quest for number one. This team can definitely play defense and haven't allowed more than 40 2/3 weeks. That's not bad. However it's the offensive end that's giving me worry. They look lost. They've now scored below 30 in the past two weeks and you don't win many games scoring under 30. They look like they're struggling long term to put the ball in the hoop and they'll need to make a major change to turn their season around. I believe they have the playmakers to turn it around, they just need some more chemistry and more execution. I expect this team to struggle for a few more weeks, but really kick it up toward the end of the year. Peter White's injury is tough on them, but his recovery could play a huge role in their turn around.
12. Meyers (-1)
Record: 0-3
Despite being one of two winless teams in the league, it's defiantly in part due to a tough schedule. Also the difference between their play in the first half compared to the second half is night and day. In the first half they allowed their opponent to score at ease and didn't do much on the offensive end as well. Then I don't know what these coaches said at halftime, but it sparked new life into them. They got better and better as the half progressed, and nearly mounted a crazy comeback in the final minute. Honestly if they can continue that level of play, they'll be a top 5 team moving forward, but until we see a consistent start to finish game out of them, they'll sit near the bottom of these rankings.
11. Gingras (+1)
Record: 0-3
Believe it or not, despite being the only other team with a 0 in the win column, I wanted to bump them up higher than this. Two of their three games were very well fought, and they are also a Kyle Plausse away from being 1-2. They played to their identity last week, by thriving under the glass. Rebounding and scoring doesn't seem to be an issue for them, it's more defensive that seems to be the achilles heel. They actually played a solid defensive first half, but the second half was far weaker. I can see them going way up this list, and as their schedule starts to smooth out, they should be in a lot better shape. The rank of 11 actually says a lot more about the teams above them than it does about themselves.
10. Teduits/Estes (-1)
Record: 1-2
It's weird to have them drop after not playing. I didn't want to do it, but I couldn't have Southwick drop after getting a solid win. Despite not playing they've played some solid teams in the early and should be trending upwards. I wouldn't be surprised if this is their last time appearing with a double digit ranking next to their name. The return of 100% Bradley TeDuits is crucial and we'll see if they can pick up some momentum after the bye.
9. Southwick (-)
Record: 1-3
I really wanted to move this up, but again it says more about the teams above them than their play themselves. Despite missing a lot of key players they were still able to play as a team and grind out a W. They played lights out defensively, and proved me wrong by being able to get a win when they didn't shoot particularly well. Their rebounding was horrible, but that was expected as literally all of their size was missing. We still haven't seen this team in "midseason" form, as they haven't had a game where all of their players show up, aside from the first game. If they can continue the team play they showed last week, they'll be a lot higher than the 9 spot.
8. O'Wiley (-2)
Record: 2-2
I don't want to them too far, yes they had kind of an ugly game last week, but I'm more looking at this team as a whole, and they were missing two key players. They actually played a very strong game with a top tier team, in the first half, and it could have gone either way. The second half however, they struggled to score and looked like a team that was missing some players. They played to strengths well rebounding the ball great, however they really struggled scoring the ball and creating shots for themselves. They're still kind of a mystery to me as we haven't seen them with all of their pieces either, but for now they'll sit right in the middle with room to move up and room to move down.
7. Bernard/Hastings (-3)
Record: 2-2
So this team is confusing. There's no other way around it. Yes they were missing a big time player, but it's amazing how they play equal to their competition every week. To be fair they played solid last week, and probably out played the competition last week, but they couldn't get the lid of their basket until the second half of the second half. They played solid defense and got more offensive rebounds than any team I have ever seen lose a basketball game. The shot selection was solid and in all honesty they played a decently well rounded game of basketball. We'll see if they can finally completely outplay another team, but the middle is perfect for them as they play equal to every team they play.
6. Zolomon (-4)
Record: 3-1
Wow... that last game was... um... well I'm not going to go any further it was ugly. The big question is was it a fluke or is there a problem. I'm leaning toward fluke as they have played spectacular in the first three weeks. However last game the shot selection was horrible. This star studded offense only was able to put up 21 points and they let up 30 more on the other end. Yes they were missing some key players, but that doesn't make up for 30 points on the other end. The two coaches on this team have to play better as they combined for 4 points on about 45 shots. Last week I called out Team Majkut and they delivered. Now I'm calling my own team out, prove we're the real deal against O'Wiley! Put up or shut up.
5. Hecht (+5)
Record: 2-2
It's amazing how much of a difference two weeks can make. I was ready to write to them off, I was ready to tell them it was it was time to hit the panic button. Thank god Coach is Hecht is better at coaching than I am, because this team looks powerful. I don't know if any of y'all watched this game, but aside from about the final two minutes they played amazing. They're playing great team defense and they're playing great as a team. Yes they blew a huge lead at the end of the game, and they will need to address that, but all in all they've looked great over the past two. Also I don't know the severity of the Dan DeBinder, but my best wishes go out to him. He played a heck of game, and he's a key piece to their success.
4. Strauss (+1)
Record: 3-1
This is another team I just haven't gotten a good look at yet. From all accounts though, the win wasn't pretty, but well deserved... if that makes any sense. They are able to compete with all of the teams they've played so far, and while the schedule hasn't been all that daunting, these freshmen have been able to compete with everyone they've faced. I'll get a better chance to see them as they have an intriguing matchup with Gingras this upcoming week. They've been great defensively, but haven't been amazing on the offensive end. They're winning with strong team play, and that will guide them to wins in the future.
3. Majkut (+5)
Record: 2-2
Maybe I should call them out more often.... They played easily the best game they have all season, and maybe the best game of anyone all throughout the season. They were able to shut down some big time players while scoring at will. They played amazing on the defense and rebounded the ball so well. The best part well, this was the best game they've played as a team. They shared the ball and everyone got involved in the offense. I'd call them out again and see if they can get to number one, but for the sake of the league I'm not going to do that. If they can keep up that level of play they will be the preseason threat we all thought they were.
2. Booth (+1)
Record: 4-0
I've been informed that in my predictions I'm yet to predict them getting a win. Well all that means is I'm 0-4 in predicting their games, so maybe I should keep it up so y'all can keep proving me wrong. I've noticed after the first half they start playing elite defense. They've held team to single digit second halves in three of their 4 games. They also can rebound the daylight out of the ball, and won the battle against another team full of big rebounders. They hustle and share the ball well, and they've found success. Even though they haven't won pretty in all of their games, they have been able to win and win convincingly. The game against Bernard will be a very interesting test for them.
1. Manzi (-)
Record: 4-0
What do you want me to say? I mean they're number 1, it was an easy choice, and they've looked almost elite. I will say this so every other team who plays them has hope. They were down 12 before Kyle Plausse decided to become Stephan Curry, that won't happen every game. ( Nothing personal, I just don't even think that's humanly possible ). And without this performance who knows what would have happened. Yes they've been elite on both sides of the ball, but they aren't invincible. We'll see if Meyers can pull a monumental upset.
I do apologize for the delay, I've been surprisingly busy this week, but this shouldn't come out this late in the future, and anyway here you go. Shoutout to Jake Willard for giving me the idea to put records in the power rankings. I'm open to all suggestions and would love to hear them.

Week 4 Results
Southwick vs. Bernard
31-28
I don't want to discredit Team Southwick, but they got outplayed in this one. Team Bernard just didn't shoot the ball well. They rebounded tremendously and gave themselves opportunities, that they just couldn't finish. Still Southwick was missing all of their size and grinded a win out. Props to them.
Booth vs. O'Wiley
41-32
I just realized I am yet to predict this team to win. That means I am now 0-4 in predicting their games. It wasn't the prettiest of games, and O'Wiley was missing two key players, but a great defensive second half led Booth to the victory.
Zolomon vs. Majkut
51-21
So midway through the second half the cops had to show up after various reports of assault. Instead of charging team Majkut they actually just joined in. Needless to say one team played great and one team didn't. Team Majkut responded to the trash talk and killed it today so S/O to them.
Strauss vs. Mcnamara
35-26
I didn't get to see this game, but from all indications it wasn't pretty for either team. However Strauss did what they do best and won with a comfortable margin.
Meyers vs. Hecht
50-46
So this game with a minute left was I think a 9 point deficit and seemingly out of hand. Then out of no where Meyers hit a few big shots and cut it to 3. They ended up coming up short in their comeback effort, but Meyers played a very solid second half, and Hecht proved last week wasn't a fluke.
Manzi vs. Gingras
54-45
If Kyle was able to hit the shot for the perfect half I would have gotten this score 100% correct. That being said Gingras led all up until halfway through the second half, then Kyle took Michael Jordan's secret stuff and balled out. Gingras played great I wouldn't hang my head if I were them.
Meyers vs. Hecht

Baller of the Week 4
Baller of the Week
Winner: Kyle Plausse - So what Kyle did in the second half of this game would have left Steph Curry in awe, after being shut out in the first half, he responded by scoring 25 in the second half, going 7/7 from three and 8/9 (and the miss was an open layup, but it's very excused nevertheless). I repeat this was all in the second half. More importantly when his team was down by 12 he himself went on a 14-0 run to give them the lead. Crazy game, easily the early performance of the year.
Runner Up: Kyle Plausse - This isn't a typo he just deserves to mentioned twice
Honorable Mentions:
Simon Chandler: 14 Points and a key steal and free throws to help ice the game
James Wilson: 14 Points and two Jimmer range threes
Dougie Thompkins: 16 Points however this game went on the same as mine so I can't elaborate.
David Meyers: 15 Points all in second half, and almost led a crazy comeback.
Luke Llodra: 16 Points, he followed up his baller of the week with another masterful performance
Jake Scharn - 14 Points and very solid defense
Drew Stone - 15 Points, eh what's new
Also shoutout to Matt Carroll, this isn't because of his performance at all, but he asked for a shoutout so here you go bud.

Week 4 Predictions
Predictions
Bernard vs. Southwick
41-37
As usual Team Bernard will play down to level of their competition, and they will grind out a win. The Elias, Stoney matchup is intriguing and win be fun to watch. In order for Southwick to win they'll have to shoot the daylights out of the ball. I lean toward Bernard.
Booth vs. O'Wiley
44-40
The early window has two strong games, and I'm going with the upset here. O'Wiley has played great defense and it might be too much for Booth to handle. Both of these teams rely on rebounding, and whoever wins the rebounding battle should end up on top. I like O'Wiley in this one in a close game.
Majkut vs. Zolomon
61-49
There's been a lot of trash talk between these two teams and now it finally will unfold. Team Zolomon as long as they are at full strength can be a lethal offensive team. I think it'll be close until about the last 5 minutes, but Majkut won't be able to keep up with the fast pace offense for the full 32 minutes.
Strauss vs. McNamara
48-39
Team Strauss has played great throughout the season, while McNamara hasn't seen their best days. I think the pure chemistry of Strauss will overpower the star power of McNamara and lead them to a convincing win.
Hecht vs. Meyers
51-39
I don't know if anyone watched team Hecht play last week, but they looked like a completely different team than the last two weeks. I expect them to continue that same level of play this week. Team Meyers is coming off a bye, and will need to play their best if they want the win. Team Hecht has a big opportunity to prove they weren't a fluke, and Meyers has a chance to turn their season around.
Manzi vs. Gingras
56-45
I think team Gingras has a bounce back week, but it won't be enough as this Mazni team is playing too well to bet against. The Max Phonard, Nate Townsend matchup is intriguing, and may tell the story of this game. If team Gingras wants this win, they'll need to rebound the ball a little better.

Power Rankings
Week 4 Power Rankings
A lot of close games this weekend made things very interesting for this week, well let's dive right in y'all don't care about the introduction anyway.
13. McNamara (-4)
It really wasn't their best game today. Yes they were missing Peter White who is a huge difference maker for them, but without him the offense and defense looked lost. They did have a stretch early on in the second half where they showed a lot of promise, but then the second half of the second half happened where they were outscored 24- 6. Consistency will be a key for them, because at times today they looked really good, but at others it was ugly. They definitely have potential to rise right back, and I am still yet to see this team at their best, but after today they have a lot of work to do if they want to contend for the title.
12. Gingras (-4)
Tough loss for them today. On offense they played a solid game and rebounded the ball very well, however Team Hecht who hasn't been all that solid on offense all year was able to score at will. This is another team that in my opinion will rise sooner rather than later. Once they work the chemistry out they can be lethal. In their two games defense seems to be the problem. The offense ranks close to the top in the league so that's not really a problem so far.I think they'll be ok and they will only go up from here, but for now after an average performance today they reside at 12 spot.
11. Meyers (+1)
They didn't play this week, but hey enjoy the slight bump, they earned it. They didn't have any turnovers the entire time this week.
10. Hecht (+3)
They won today. Sometimes analysts say "It's more accurate to say the other team lost then to say they won" but that's not what happened today. Team Hecht played a great game, and has shown massive improvement from their first two games. They played well from start to finish and aside from a slightly rocky start, they played a very consistant game. Last game they came up just short, but this one they kept their composure and displayed some late game heroics. They're a team that's trending upwards, and hopefully they can maintain or maybe even improve this level of play.
9. Southwick (+2)
Despite missing a few players and losing a key player to injury this team still played a good team tough. Matthew Heinser really proved himself today playing great on both sides of the ball. They played their best offensive game all season and looked really good on the boards. Defensively they played sub par and that is this team's main issue as of now. They changed their identify to more of hybrid offense instead of a ride or die three point offense and that really worked to their advantage. This team is an enigma to me, and it'll be a few more games before they find a niche in these rankings.
8. Majkut (-2)
They were missing Andrew and Liam who are essential to their team, but in this is now two games in a row where they have underwhelmed. Maybe it's time to say this just isn't the preseason powerhouse we all thought they were. I want you to prove me wrong, please do, you even get a chance to do it against my team next week, but the fact is this team so far just hasn't been able to get it done. A loss to Booth isn't bad as they are a top tier team, but a loss to a struggling O'Wiley team is concerning. I think there is hope for this team, but they they need to figure out their identity and develop some chemistry that they just don't have right now.
7. TeDuits/Estes (-2)
For most teams a 16-0 hole to start the game and 27-6 halftime score is game over. To this team, that just means it's time to fight. I commend them for battling in the second half even though it was virtually impossible. They played really hard on both ends of the floor and they didn't play like the 7th best team in the second half. They played pesky defense and the shots weren't falling on offense. Playing Zolomon hasn't been to kind on team's rankings, but for this team, they didn't look bad in doing so. 7 will most likely as far as they drop as I see an upward trend for them moving forward.
6. O'Wiley (+4)
Great win for them today. They were playing without their star player, but many players stepped up today. Big shoutout to Tristan Naboicheck for proving today he's not only there for defense in his debut. They played like a team who's been playing together for a long time. The only reason they're not higher on this list is because of the unconvincing first two performances. I really liked what I saw today though on both ends of the floor. Overall if they continue to play at the level they did today, I believe they can make a run at the number one spot before the season comes to a close.
5. Strauss (-1)
I know they lost today and I know they're 1-2 but this 1-2 team has looked really strong in their first three. Maybe I shouldn't be calling them the freshman, but instead the comeback kids, because every game they're mounting serious comebacks. Today they came up just short, however their effort shouldn't go unnoticed. I haven't been able to get a really good look at them, as now twice they've played at the same time as me, however from what I've heard and the brief play that I've seen they look like they can really compete. Also I know Jack Barry is due for a monster game coming up I can feel it.
4. Bernard/Hastings (+3)
I really don't know what to make out of this team. They've played all three of their games down to the wire, and they beat a good team today, but it's just confusing to me. They just play to the level of their competition no matter who it is. If they can keep winning however, I can't drop them. Their offense hasn't been anything all that spectacular, scoring below 45 all 3 weeks, but defensively they've looked great and in crunchtime, they have been able to play exceptional. I'm still waiting however to see this team at their full strength because they haven't all of their player at any of their three games.
3. Booth (-)
Admittedly I didn't get the name of the interim head coach today, but he has a career record of 1-0 (Elias Sports Bureau). That being said it wasn't the prettiest of wins, but it was a win. They looked good in the paint and rebounded solidly again. They have an intriguing matchup against O'Wiley next week that will really but their paint and rebounding skills to the test. On both sides of the ball they're playing very solid, but not elite. This formula however has led to be one of three 3-0 so hats off to them for getting there so far. Overall I think this team should stay near the top for the remainder of the season.
2. Zolomon (-1)
Remember last week I said team Manzi did nothing wrong but I had to drop them a spot because Team Zolomon played so good. Well now I have to stay consistent and do the same thing. It's a good sign for them they were still able to come away with a win, without relying on deep shooting. They couldn't really play the fast break either due to only having 6 players, but they still managed a solid offensive day. This shows how much volume they have offensively and defensively they showed flashes of eliteness so if they can make that consistently they will run away with the title with ease.
1. Manzi (+1)
After a quick one week hiatus from the number spot, Team Manzi is right back. They really killed it today, and even with a minimal amount of players, they looked fantastic on both ends. Kyle Plausse made a case for himself as DPOY today, while they were able to stop their opponent from getting anything going. Despite the lack of dedication on this team, (50% practice attendance, 65% game attendance) they still are able to be an elite team in this league, and they are a very legitimate title contender.

Week 3
Winner: Luke Llodra (19) - Finished with 19 and hit a game winner for the teams first win, have a week Luke!
Runner up: Alex Sellers (20) - Lead scorer and rebounded like crazy, he really played a great game today.
Honorable Mentions:
Tristan Naboicheck (15) - And Tremendous Defense

Week 3 Results
Zolomon vs. Teduits/Estes
42-34
This game started out 16-0 in favor of Zolomon, and 27-6 at half. Teduits/Estes however slowly started to chip away and started to even look like they were going to win for a second. Zolomon looked human today, however they couldn't run their elite fast break due to their six players. Alex Sellers continued his dominance.
Strauss vs. Bernard
39-37
Not to completely brag about my prediction, but not only was I within three for both scores, but I got the story of the game completely right also. Bernard got out to a solid lead, Strauss came so close to gutting out a comeback, but in a two point after they lost to possession, they fouled, couldn't rebound, flagrant fouled, and fouled one more time and missed the rebound again. Great comeback effort nevertheless, as for Bernard solid win.
Booth vs. Southwick
46-42
Again within three on both scores, however this one I couldn't get the winner right. Hats off to Booth for getting the W, but there were some very questionable calls that defiantly affected the outcome of this game, not saying the outcome would have necessarily changed but the impact was there. Heck of a game, the lead was held by Booth all throughout and Southwick grinded it down, but couldn't quite finish.
Hecht vs. Gingras
44-42
Aye! Hecht was able to pull it out. Very close game all throughout. I said Hecht was one of those teams that would gradually get better, but today instead of a small step up they took a big step up. Luke Llodra hit a crazy clutch shot with 6 seconds to go and Mark DeBinder sealed it with a big time block. The play of the day had to be the Llodra jumper.
Manzi vs. McNamara
54-29
Manzi got off to a huge lead, then they kept the huge lead, then they extended it. Total domination in this one. Kasey Griffiths played another dominant game finishing with two and-1's. AS for McNamara, yes it was an ugly but they were missing a star player. Overall Manzi despite being the least committed team in the league has been playing really well.
Majkut vs. O'Wiley
56-47
Little bit of chippy game here, but a pretty good one too. O'Wiley was able to fend off any comeback attempt Majkut was trying to make. Sam Battles did his best Andrew Berube impersonation, but they weren't able to overcome. Majkut despite being the pre-season favorite now finds themselves losers of two straight.

Week 3 Predictions
TeDuits/Estes vs. Zoloman (Game of the Week)
60-49
Great matchup here. An elite offense and solid defense facing off against an elite defense and a solid offense. Team Zolomon has played more consistent through their first two however and should come away with the win.
Bernard/Hastings vs. Strauss
43-40
Intriguing matchup here as we could see the debuts of Vassell and Bono. These freshman rallied last week and looked elite in the last 10 minutes and I could see a similar situation in which they need another rally to comeback. However Bernard/Hastings is the better defensive team and they should give Strauss enough trouble to pick up the win.
Southwick vs. Booth
45-39
Booth has gutted out two wins and have beaten two solid teams, however I'm going with the upset here. Booth played a weak second half however and it'll be interesting to see if first half Booth or second half Booth shows up. I'm going with the upset here and saying Southwick shoots well this week.
Hecht vs. Gingras
53-49
This one may finish closer than you think. This is a battle of two underrated teams, but I give the edge to Gingras coming off the bye. Avi Jiv will make his debut which should give Gingras a boost. Team Hect his a team I can see constantly improving, and I think they will showcase that improvement today, but I believe Gingras will come away with the win.
Majkut vs. O’Wiley
41-37
This is a game of missing stars as Sam and Andrew will not suit up for their respective teams. I believe the defensive debut if Tristan Naboicheck should really help O'wiley and without Andrew this team will be looking for a new primary shot taker. Also Liam McDonough is a bigger absence than one might expect. I think O'Wiley will gut out a victory.
McNamara vs. Manzi
61-43
Team Manzi should pull away with a win. I am still yet to see McNamara play, however Manzi has done nothing for me to get me to predict them to lose. I wish I had more scouting on McNamara so this one is the one I'm least confident on, but Manzi looks to good to pick against.

Power Rankings
Week 3 Power Rankings
Side note I apologize for the standings page looking like a 4 year old drew it. On blogger it looks completely normal but then when it's posted it gets wavy. I've spent a lot of time trying to make it look normal and this is as close as it's gotten. I'll keep working on it, but for now enjoy the standings that look like they're dizzy.

13. Hect (-2)
Team Hect has a total of 62 points this year. In two teams have put up more than 62 this year in a single and one team has done it twice. The lack of offense on this team has been a problem in the early going. The good news for this team is they are playing good on the other end of the ball. They haven't allowed more than 40 in either of their two games so that's a positive takeaway. I think the main issue with this team is they're built around shooting and they haven't shot well to start. This is a problem that can fixed on any given day and it's very possible they're due for a rise. They need to get more familiar with each other and get their chemistry down, but if they can start hitting some shots you'll see their name late in these rankings.
12. Meyers (-4)
Oof that was rough. Even though this is only the second game, I'm going to say today was more of a fluke than a reflection of the team's skill. They played with a lot of hustle and the shots just weren't dropping, but if they want to rise any higher on these rankings they have to play better defensively. Their opponents have been scoring at will and they're point differential ranks them lowest in the league. With all due respect they did play the best offensive team so far today so maybe it's not fair to beat them up too much. One of the things that worked for them was their offensive rebounding. They looked solid on that end of the glass. If a few more of their shots start to fall, they could be right to back to rising up again.
11. Southwick (+1)
It seems wrong for them to only rise up one spot, because they did play a lot better today. However a tight loss to a young team, exposed some weakness at the end of the game. This team couldn't come through in the clutch, and that's everything. I'm not talking about the last shot, I'm talking about the 11 point lead that went got erased. The play in the later stages of the game didn't match the play early on. They shot the ball a lot better today, and shoutout to Elias Jiser for hitting his first five three attempts. This team was the hardest team to rank because they played like a different team this week than they did last week. Overall this team played a pretty good game, and could rise sooner rather than later.
10. O'Wiley (-3)
I didn't want to punish them too badly for missing two key players in Tristan Naboicheck and Sam Budreau, but this says more about the teams above them than them. A lot of guys stepped up today for them but as a whole in the past two games they haven't looked spectacular. They played a strong first half, but weren't able to carry over that level of play to the second half. They shot well from behind the arc and rebounded well, but they shot at a very low percentage in the paint. They did however play very aggressively and aggression and be a key to success. This pre season powerhouse has been a little underwhelming to start the season, however I wouldn't be surprised to see them turn it around.
9. Mcnamara (+4)
I still haven't gotten a chance to see this team play. Week 1 was a bye and week 2 they played at the same time as I did. From the vibe I got they won today, but they won kind of ugly. They won fairly convincingly against the lowest ranked team, so that doesn't make ranking them much easier. Next week will be a test for them, as they take on a confusing O'Wiley team. I promise I'll actually get a chance to see them in this one, and I'll have more accurate assessment of this team. For now they sit at 9.
8. Gingras (-3)
I feel bad about dropping them three spots, they had a very solid first week, and now they didn't have a chance to prove themselves this week and yet now they're sitting at 8 two spots lower. At least they have a chance for a huge jump next week.
7. Bernard/Hastings (-3)
They played decently today, and I got more of a feel for their identity as Eddie Hastings made his debut today, however they're still yet to see action from Vassell. I didn't want to drop them too far as Vassell is a key player, however they did still lose today so there had to be a little drop. This team despite struggling mightily early showed there's no quit in them. They were down 12 early and chipped away at that lead although the game despite no let up from their opponent. Drew Stone is playing amazing basketball right now, and he'll be key in this team's long term success. They can rebound and they play hard, on the defensive end they looked very solid. This team plays hard and I can see them rising in the near future.

6. Majkut (-3)
I feel like I'm just dropping every team three spots. I swear it's not on purpose. After a promising start what happened today? Well they didn't show up in the first half. Whether it was tremendous defense by their opponent or just bad offense, or a mix a both, they only put up 10 in the first half. You're not going to win many game if you only score 10 in the first half. They were out rebounded even though they were built around height and they shoot amazingly today either. They would be a lot lower if it weren't for a far stronger showing in week one. They'll need to defend a lot better and rebound if they want to get back to where they were. Week 3 will be interesting to see whether it's this team or the the team from week 1 that shows up.
5. Teduits/Estes (+4)
This is another time that played two completely different halves. The first half was ugly defensively, although not terrible on the offensive end and the second half was a far better half of basketball. They got out on shooters and rebounded better. Ryan TeDuits took over the league in almost technicals, however still was able to put points up despite a poor shooting day. Bradley TeDuits is a key member of this team who can hopefully come back after missing the past two games. They have played solid basketball to this point and have looked good on the offensive end especially. They'll need to improve defensively if they want to continue to rise, and Bradley should be able to make that difference for them.
4. Strauss (+7)
Wow okay that's a big rise, especially for some freshman, but they really balled out today. It started out a little tough today, but a crazy run of near perfect basketball helped them mount a huge comeback. They didn't play like freshman today, they played like they've been playing in this league for years. Even though it wasn't the best shooting day for them, they still were able to do what they had to do to grind out a win. They played great defense down the stretch and got good open shots that weren't falling as much as they should. They look good and they aren't even playing to their full potential yet. Their defensive play was very strong as well, and if they continue to improve like this who knows how high these freshman can fly.
3. Booth (+2)
There were some questions about this team after this week one win. Then they beat a really tough team to follow it up. They played great on the defensive end and rebounded the daylights out of the ball. They also got a boost from some great first half three point shooting. Now the win wasn't perfect, they only scored 10 in the second half, and they kind of started to disappear. That being said they still defended well and proved they can defend height making them a little scary from here on out. Overall this team is kind of mystery to me however they're playing really well right now and proved they can play.
2. Manzi (+1)
No Nate no problem. This team was still able to 48 and play really well despite missing a key player. Kasey Griffiths is proving to be a presence in the paint, and they are hitting some shots as well. Shoutout to Matt LaMarre who had the play of of the week last week with a circus shot, and completely one upped it with a behind the back save out of bounds to set up a three point shooter on the opposite side of the floor perfectly. He's been a force, and is making a strong case for himself for Freshman of the Year. This team can defend, shoot well and rebound, and I would be surprised to see them drop much father than this.
1. Zolomon (+2)
Yeah, I'm putting my own team at number 1 fight me, we played great. When you score 65+ once it's a fluke, when you do it twice in a row, suddenly it's scary. They score in a variety of ways, as the big ben play quick, and all of the guards can shoot. Everyone top to bottom played extremely solid. Alex Sellers is off to an amazing start proving to be unguardable below the hoop. This team can play the fast break, but also proved today they are very strong in the half court set as well. They accounted for a crazy amount of blocks and really defended well as well. As long as they are scoring 65+ they won't be losing too many games.

Baller of the Week 2
Baller of the Week
Winner: Alex Sellers
Co-Winner: Drew Stone
It was too hard to decide between these too so I had to split it. Sellers had a double-double with 25 points, and Drew Stone had 27 points with the majority coming in late in the second helping his team make a run. If we're talking way too early MVP these two are the leading candidates as they both played spectacular.
Honorable Mentions:
Brendan Cronin (16) - Really stepped up in Sam's absence.
Kasey Griffiths (17) - Stepped up in Nate's Absense
Elias Jiser (19) - Also went 5/5 on his first 5 thress
Yianni Mcsweeny (3) - Not that he did anything, but I picked him to hit one three all year and not score again, and he hit his second three today.

Week 2 Results
Zolomon vs. Meyers
66-29
I mean the score kind of tells the story. One team played well, one team didn't. We'll see if they can bounce back nice week. As for Zolomon, they continue their ridiculous offensive play.
McNamara vs Hect
37-23
Both teams played pretty ugly, neither had a lot of success getting the ball into the hoop. Mcnamara was able to escape with the win however and played significantly better.
O'Wiley vs. TeDuits/Estes
53-42
This was actually a very close game until about halfway through the second half. O'Wiley was missing a key player in Sam Budreau, but players like Brendan Cronin and James Wilson stepped. Colin TeDuits proved to me the more level headed TeDuits brother while playing a great game and leading his team to a win.
Bernard vs. Manzi
48-43
This was a weird game as Team Bernard was missing Vassell and Manzi was missing Nate. What looked initially like a blowout turned into a pretty close game. Great comeback by Bernard that fell just short. Drew Stone also widened the gap on his MVP campaign.
Strauss vs. Southwick
44-43
What a game. Southwick had a big lead, but slowly Strauss started to chip away and with about 4 minutes left they took the lead started trading baskets, it came down to the buzzer as the final shot for Southwick rimmed out. Early candidate for game of the year.
Majkut vs. Booth
37-30
This game was the tale of two halfs. The first half was all Booth, as they held Majkut to just 10 points, while the second half was all Majkut as they held Booth to just 10 points. The three point shooting led Booth the win.

Power Rankings
Week 2 Power Rankings
13 Mcnamara (-3)
This team didn't score at all this week, almost like they didn't even show up. The bye week played lockdown defense and really made it tough of them. Obviously that's a joke and since I have no idea how to rank a team that didn't play I have to put them at the bottom. Don't worry they will rise, it's not like they're down here because they played bad. I like this team roster wise and I'm excited to see them debut next week.
12. Southwick (-4)
In the pre-season I said this team will live and die with the three ball, today they died with the three ball. To be fair the team they played did have an amazing game, however it was ugly game for this team altogether. 33 points isn't terrible, but it's not all that great either. The offense wasn't the underlying issue though it was the defense. Nate and Kasey were getting to the hoop when they felt like it, and they'll need to work on that side of the ball if they want to rise up. I know they'll shoot better in the future and look better than this, but for now they sit at the 12 spot.
11. Hect (+1)
This game doesn't reflect this team at all as they were missing a certain set of brothers that are really essential. That being said they still looked alright. They were winning a close contest for the majority of the time, and yes their opponent was missing some key players too, but you can't totally discredit them. This team has had a history of playing teams really tough, and just coming short. Hopefully that pattern will change. It'll be easier to rate them properly when the DeBinders so show up, but for now 11 is the spot for them.
10. Strauss (+3)
Forget all the freshman chirping I did before, these kids can play. They had the second most chemistry out of anyone today, and they proved themselves more than they possibly could have in my eyes. I expect them to rise more and more week by week, and even 10 may be a little low for them. They had a well fought battle against a good team, and were winning most of the way. The reason they aren't a little higher is because they didn't come through in the clutch. It may be freshman jitters. That being said, there's a lot of potential here to rise and honestly in shock, keep it up y'all.
9. TeDuits/Estes (-6)
I wasn't planning on dropping on them this far because there were a lot of reasons for this loss. Bradley didn't play, and they played a quality team. It's really more about the teams above them than their play itself. They played a good team tough, but after a huge second half run, they just looked demoralized. They moved the ball pretty well, and Jay Fulreader provided a great spark for them. They'll be fine moving forward and should rise up. However until Bradley comes back this team will stay lower on the list.
8. Meyers (+1)
I tried to move this team up more even, as they took my prediction and hurt its feelings. They played a good team really tough and came so close to a win. On the defensive side of the ball they looked great, forcing turnovers, and getting hands in faces, but on offense they turned it over a lot and the ball movement wasn't great. This team really needed a practice, and should continue to climb the ranks. I'll make you guys a deal, I'll keep predicting you guys to get blown out, and then you can keep proving me wrong.
7. O'Wiley (-5)
I expected this team to be number by the end of the day. Well that didn't happen. They were able to get the win, but it was ugly. One play I want to point out was Patrick O'Reilly hitting a tough and-1, falling into the stands next to his grandparents. It was an amazing finish and great moment. All of the other plays however were a lot uglier. Lots of turnovers and some poor defensive play, kind of amazing they were able to come away with a win. On the bright side they came through in the clutch. They were missing a key defender in Tristan Naboicheck and he could be the difference maker for this team.
6. Gingras (+1)
It's really rare that a team puts up 59 points and doesn't come away with a win. They played amazing on the offensive end, and proved they can play. Yes they allowed a league high 70 and it wasn't the best defensive effort, but that being said they were able to hit some big time shots and keep the game in check throughout. They were missing a few key players in Kyle Battles and Avi Jdsnfjslkbfa (sorry I spelled your name wrong, I think I got it this time), I think this team could really be strong moving forward, and with a practice could easily bang out the defensive kinks.
5.Booth (+6)
This is another team that really surprised me. They played a really good game of basketball and were able to come through in the clutch. They played hard defense and held the star studded freshman team in check. This is a team that can sneak up on people as the chemistry was really evident. I really what I saw on the glass and they shot pretty well from deep too. Even though they were only able to put up 40 points, they still played a great game and should continue to trend upwards throughout the season.
4. Bernard/Hastings (+2)
This was just a scrimmage for this team. They were tough to grade because three core players were missing, however for the one's that did show up, they looked great. Drew Stone had a standout performance, and when they have Karuri they'll have elite guard play. They only were able to put up 37, but again 3 big missed players, and they played amazing on the defensive end. Overall these rookie coaches (even though only one was there) really proved themselves today and they could even continue to rise a little more.
3. Majkut (-2)
Let me just say this says so much more about the teams above them than the 3 itself. They played to keep the number one spot, it's just margin between 1-2-3 is razor and I gave the edge to the other two teams because of margin. Shoutout to this team for taking my speed comment and making look like an idiot. They ran hard and looked skilled doing it. They had a great run to start the second half that no team could have stopped. If they can play this well this consistently, they will be right back in that number 1 spot.
2. Zolomon (+3)
I thought team Manzi would lead the way in scoring by a longshot after scoring 61, then Zolomon played one of the best offensive basketball game I've ever been a part of. The ball movement was straight out of San Antonio, and the fast break offense was unstoppable. Remember I said earlier that a team had the second most chemistry, this one had the most. They looked like they were in midseason form right from the get go, and they had 5 players who hit a three today. The three point shooting was top tier as well. The only reason they're not number 1 is the 59 on other end, but practice will fix that no problem.
1. Manzi (+3)
So that was a blowout... and this team looks unstoppable. On both sides of the ball they played great basketball, and I was really impressed, no alarmed about how solid they were. They were able to penetrate the paint like it was their job and they shot the daylight out of the ball from the arc. They showed great balance and were able to be elite on both sides of the ball. Next week will be a big test for them as they will play a better team. Overall though this team played lights out and they deserve the number one spot.

Final Scores
Majkut vs. TeDuits/Estes
54-44
Aside from a stretch in the early second half this was a very close game, I'll say this about the Majkut team though, they took my speed comment and ripped to shreds. As for Teduits/Estes, I wouldn't too much, they were missing Bradley
Booth vs. Strauss
40-38
My biggest takeaway from this game is these freshman can play. A great effort came up just short as team Booth came up big in the clutch. Really good game the whole way through as neither team took a double digit lead at any point in the game.
Southwick vs. Manzi
61-33
This was just complete domination. Team Manzi played a great game basketball and proved that the number 3 spot for them was way too low. For team Southwick, I wouldn't give u hope but admittedly that was one of the uglier performances in the league.
O'Wiley vs. Meyers
48-44
S/O to team Meyers, they didn't like that I predicted a blowout and they proved me wrong. That being said on both sides the game was ugly, more turnovers than assists. Both of these teams really needed a practice and hopefully will improve.
Zolomon vs. Gingras
70-59*
Who needs defense anyway. A combined 129 points is impressive offense and garbage defense. Both teams actually really played good however. They both shot the daylights out of the ball. These teams both proved themselves.
Hect vs. Bernard
39-36
Not much scoring here, but a great game nevertheless. Team Bernard was able to get the job done without three key players. As for team Hect another heartbreaking loss as this team has reputation of playing every game close and just falling short in the end.

Baller of the Week 1
Winner: Drew Stone
Honorable Mentions: Max Phonard, Garrett Solomon, David Meyers, Kasey Griffiths, Jacob Booth, Alex Sellers
Big thank you to Stoney because if it weren't for him this would have been a really tough call. Unfortunately this is the one game I wasn't able to watch, but after dropping 26 and leading his team to a W, the choice was clear. There were some really strong individual performances along with great team play, this year should be very exciting.

Week 1 Scoring Predictions
Strauss vs. Booth
45-39
Interesting matchup here, I believe Jack Barry will explode in his debut, however the first game jitters will get the best of his debut and Team will start their season 1-0.
Majkut vs. Estes (Game of the week)
44-36
In this week's game of the week, I have teams Estes massive amount of chemistry overcoming the size of team Majkut. Defense will decide this game and I give the edge to Estes.
Southwick vs. Manzi
51-37
Team Mazni should make simple work of Team Southwick as no one of this roster can contain Kasey Griffith. Nate and Elias is intriguing matchup, but I'll give the edge to Nate's sound defense.
Meyers vs. O'Wiley
51-33
I promise you I'm not just picking the team on the right this is just genuinely who I think is going to win. The balance of O'Wiley will just be too much to handle as they should get a fairly easy win
Hect vs. Bernard
44-43
I'm going with the upset here as team Bernard is missing two of their star defenders this week. They will need to shoot really well to pull this upset, but I could see it happening
Zolomon vs. Gingras
37-35
This game will be very close, but the absence of Avi Jivalani may prove to be the difference. The athleticism of team Zolomon will need to come through to pick this win up.

Pre-Season Award Picks
Remember this is my personal opinion, so this take all of this as a grain of salt. If you think you should be on a list somewhere and you're not, go out there and prove me wrong.
Rookie (freshman) of the Year
Winner: Alex Bushnell
Runner up: Zach Millett
Honorable Mentions: Jack Barry, Matthew Heinser, Kyle Plausse, Pretty much the entire Strauss roster
I don't know many of the freshman, and for most of them, evaluations were the only time I've ever seen them play basketball. From what I did see however, they look rock solid. Alex Bushnell is knock down three point shooter and very good with the ball in hands as well, if he can show what he did in evals all season, he will be in the same spot he is now at the end of the season.
Coach of the Year
Winner: Me of course
No I'm kidding, this award is impossible to give in the preseason, because I genuinely mean this when I say it. All of the coaches are great, so this will end up being 90% based on record for the at the end of the season.
Sixth Man of the Year
Winner: Eddie Hastings
Runner up: Jake Scharn
Honorable Mentions: Jacob Brewster, Justin Mayer, Jack Blount, Colin TeDuits
Since there's equal playing time, this award is really hard to give. I interpret as the player who does the most on the floor outside of scoring. I know that doesn't really make sense though and I'm open to suggestions for a better meaning. For now though that's what I'm going with and Eddie despite not being a huge point scorer is extremely valuable to a roster. He can rebound with authority, and is also a top tier defender. He moves without the ball really well and fits the definition well even though he's capable of scoring high totals as well.
Most Improved
Winner: Andrew Dorr
Runner up: Max Phonard
Honorable Mentions: Alex Phonard, Will Joyner, Peter Eldredge, Phil Marino
This is another that's hard to give out in the pre-season, the award is about out performing expectations and in the pre-season the only thing I have to evaluate players on is expectations, and one evaluation. That being said, from what I saw of Andrew last year and what I see now... it's amazing the improvement. He'll be a sleeper teams will regret not picking.... even though they couldn't.
Defensive Player of the Year
Winner: Tristan Naboicheck
Runner Up: Bradley TeDuits
Honorable Mentions: Nate Townsend, Eddie Hastings, Colin Teduits, Sam Battles
Tristan has always been known for his defense, now I'm giving Patrick Beverley the pre-season lead as defensive player of the year. He's capable of guarding some of the best players in the league and screams hustle. While the runner-ups are right on his tail, he is primed for the award this year. His athleticism makes up for what he lacks in height and his is a pain in the butt to be guarded by.
MVP
Winner: Sam Boudreau
Runner Up: Garrett Solomon
Honorable Mentions: Drew Stone, Nate Townsend, Elias Jiser, Mark Debinder
This year should be very crowded at the top of the MVP ladder. There are at least 10-20 deserving candidates and it will be a battle. Sam has shown time and time again he is a freak of nature at this sport and plays very similar to Giannis. He'll get a chance to show what's capable of on the court and could very possibly average 20+ points a game.
Most Likely to Hit One Three and not score the rest of the season

Hello all, and welcome to another season of Groton Dunstable Rec Basketball. For those of you who don't me, my name is Will Zimmon, and I will be running the blog this year. That's pretty much all you need to know about me. Now let's get to the good stuff. With the exception of the Zolomon enjoy this brief period of time where I love you all because by this time on Sunday... different story. For those of you who are on the Zolomon roster, I expect nothing but the title, so no pressure.
13. Strauss
There's good news and bad news for this team. The good news is this might be the best freshman core of basketball players ever assembled. The bad news is 8/10 players are freshman. This actually may not necessarily be a bad thing as there is likely plenty of chemistry, however the lack of high school rec experience could be tough on them. There's a good amount of size on this team, but not an intimidating amount of speed. There is obvious potential for this team however. I could see them staying near the bottom for the beginning of the season and making a run to the top late. The lack of upper classmen makes this team a question mark for me (don't worry Bono, I still see you). This team could easily prove me wrong however as this is the team I know least about.
12. Hect
This team features a lot of the same faces from the squad last year. They have a solid mix of size and speed and some shooters to complement the team. One of the major holes I see in this team though is the lack of two point guards. Yes Mark, is great as a floor general, but the lack of another true ball handler may hurt this team. The size and speed are both present, but neither of them are overwhelming. Defensively this team is very solid, and if that becomes the focal point of their identity they are destined for a rise in the rankings. The chemistry should be good because a lot of these kids played together last year, so with that in mind they could be destined to rise up the list.
11. Booth
This is the team in the league where if everyone plays to their full potential they will win. Well I guess you can say that about any of the teams, but this one especially. A lot of these players have improved a lot from last year, and if they're ceiling continues to grow, they could be very scary. They'll be able to rebound the basketball at one of the best rates in the league. The overall shooting of the roster isn't tremendous which could be a problem for this team, however the solid post play should make up for this. Ball handlers on this roster are limited, which could lead into some problems later. Overall this is another team that can easily prove me wrong and rise to the top, but for now they’ll be at 11.
10. Mcnamara
This team is one of the most balanced in our league. A great mix of size, speed and shooting. The biggest reason I have them at 10 as opposed to higher is I’m worried about the commitment of Peter White. This isn’t a knock on Peter at all because I don’t think he’ll miss games because he’s lazy, but because he’s a multi sport sport stud who may have conflict with other sports. Even without Peter, They have a hybrid big man who can ball handle in Zach Millett, and some solid scorers and defenders to help the cause. Their biggest strength however will be their rebounding with their strong size. This team will ride or die with the attendance of one of their players, depending on his attendance they could be very lethal.
9. Meyers
This team in my opinion, next to mine own was the hardest to rate. They have a few very capable ball handlers, and some size, but not a lot. Rebounding may be a struggle for this team as the height is slightly lacking. My pre-season freshman of the year Alex Bushnell will really have to step up and come through for his team week for week. Their identity needs to be based around fast break offense as they have a quick roster. Shooting on this team is very solid, but defense may be the biggest question mark moving forward. If they can find chemistry with each other they will succeed, but that may take a few weeks to really get going. For now they start at 9.
8. Southwick
Team Southwick is very solid from top to bottom. They will make their mark behind the three point arc as this team is loaded with capable three point shooters. My one big issue with this team is a lack of height. They don’t possess any tall players play big (Cause I know Harrison strictly splashes threes). They do however have a lot of speed and they can utilize that in the fast break. Teams that live and die with the three usually either blow teams out or get blown out, and I can see that happening to this team as well. Depending on the day, and the wind this team could beat anyone and lose to anyone, so I tossed them in the middle, where they can either rise big or fall far.
7. Gingras
I actually really like this squad this year. They have everything a rec ball teams needs, they have a healthy mix of shooters, rebounders, ball handlers, fast break players, and they can actually be very scary moving forward. I really like what I saw from the Phonard brothers in the evals, and they play a key role for this team’s success. Once they develop some chemistry together they will be a very solid roster as they can play at any pace whether it’s fast or slow. The reason they are 7 instead of higher is, while they are solid at everything, it may take some time to develop an identity, and see what works for them. They’re another team that can beat anyone or lose to anyone, but I can see them rising late right before playoffs come.
6. Bernard/Hastings
Two rookie head coaches will attempt to take the this league over and capture the title, and with the roster they have, it very well could happen. The feel good story of the year comes out of this team as free agent James Hastings was signed to play along side his brother. This team may be the best defensive team in the league as Eddie Hastings because every player from top to bottom is equal if not better as a defender as they are at offense. This team has a couple of ball handlers that can drop you to your knees faster than Colin Kaepernick when the national anthem comes on, and some size as well to balance it out. This team is force to be reckon with and should be a legitimate title contender throughout the season.
5. Zolomon
It’s hard grading yourself, so this may be way off and if it is I apologize, but I genuinely believe this team can be lethal. First of all this is easily the most hustle on one roster. Top to bottom everybody can run. The two tallest players on the team (Brewster and Sellers) may even be the two fastest too, creating match up nightmares. They also have two tall ball handlers that also should be alarming to rest of the league. The defense on this team is sound and they have a few offensive play makers that can light up the scoreboard. The fast break offense will be the key as this will be the make or break for this squad. It’s my own team so yes the following may have just a tiny bit biased, but I think they definitely have a legitimate shot at the title and would have no problem beating Duke.
4. Manzi
This team looks lethal. Nate Townsend is one of the best two way players in the league right now, and the mix of height, speed and shooting will prove to successful for this team moving forward. Chemistry may be a slight issue for this team as they are a mix of juniors, sophomores and freshman, but if they can figure that out expect them to move upwards not downwards. Defense is one of this team's strongest weapons are they will be able to shut down the brightest stars in the league. I believe they will strive against teams that rely on star power, but may struggle with teams that run deep. I could see this team rising straight to the top quick, but if they don’t ever get their chemistry down I can see them plummeting as well.
3. Estes/TeDuits
Last year this squad made a crazy run and came up just short in the playoffs. This year I don’t see that happening. With the most second most prestigious basketball family in basketball behind the Ball’s ( Ryan, Bradley, Colin and Connor TeDestes) this team has star power galore. With the four players alone they have a mix of height, speed, ball handling, scoring and defense, pair them up with some some players that possess height and rebounding, solid shooting and speed as well and all of sudden team Estes/TeDuits is primed for another league title again. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them finish number one during regular season again, and hopefully for them this year will have more mercy on them than last.
2. O’Wiley
There are two reason I love this team, 1. The team name is maybe the most clever thing I’ve came up with, and 2. The roster is solid from top to bottom. This team is built off of two elements, defense and height. Two of the tallest players in the league (Jared and Pat) will dominate the glass like Duncan and Robinson. Let’s also not forget they have Giannis himself in Sam Boudreau. They have a few defensive studs and some sound shooting as well to round them into one of the best teams this league has to offer. This team should be scary this year, and they possess easily one of the best rosters in the league. I don’t see them falling too far from the number 2 spot.
1, Majkut
Despite being public enemy number one to this blogger's own team, I respect a great roster when I see it. The height on this team is alarming, with true big mean to compliment hybrid big men this team is truly terrifying. Between height and elite level defense this team is force in the league and teams will have a lot trouble putting up more than 40 on them. They also have a few lights out shooters creating a scary dynamic to this team. The one upside for the rest of the league is that they have negative speed on the roster, They are beatable through the fast break. Also dedication may be an issue as many of the players have conflicts throughout the season. Overall though this team is very very solid. ( By the way the first line is a total joke, no hard feelings)

Closing Remarks
Another season of rec ball in the books and as usual it did not disappoint. We saw multiple buzzer beaters, a full court prayer, one of the biggest letdowns in rec playoff history, the rise of a future stars and the end of past. As usual we saw passion mixed with sportsmanship and all but 10 dreams crushed. With the HS Varsity team losing 10 seniors much of this year's top rec talent will be playing on the big court next season opening the floor for some young bloods.
I've had a lot of fun on the rec courts these past 4 years and had even more fun running this blog this season. I hope everyone has had as much fun as me and continue to uphold the rec standards. I hope you all have enjoyed my work on this blog but if not then I have good news for you, this is it for me.
Congrats on the ring Team Ordemann! And remember, who needs varsity??

Finals MVP
This Finals MVP is Nick Poitras. Nick played excellent defense on the regular season MVP runner up Dean Tornaritis and he managed to put up 17 points on the offensive end. He was a solid team leader for Team Ordemann all season and he continued to be throughout the playoffs.

REC BALL 2k17 FINALS
Ordemann 48 over Tornaritis 33
In a blowout no one saw coming, Team Ordemann took down the Tornaritis dynasty for the final time. Jake Gavel and Nick Poitras carried the load and with the supporting crew, Team Ordemann proved too much for Deano and company. The team defense of Team Ordemann held Team Tornaritis to an impressive 33 points although to be fair Team Tornaritis missed a lot of layups. Dean tried his best to keep the dream alive but the 3-game wasn't working for him and that proved costly. Team Ordemann was one of the most well rounded teams in the league and by winning this championship over the most top heavy teams in the league goes to show you that depth matters. Its a team sport and the best team, not player or players, in the league took home the hardware this season.

Baller of the Semi's
Sorry this is late, but Dean Tornaritis wins baller of the semi finals. He had another great game and has led his 8th seeded team all the way to the finals. There has been some controversy over the amount minutes Dean has played over the past few weeks but even with this you can't deny that what he is doing out on the floor.

FINALS PREDICTION
Tornaritis 49 vs Ordemann 45
We think this is going to be a great championship game but when the dust settles we believe Dean and Team Tornaritis will be champions one more time. The Tornaritis franchise is not new to this type of pressure and with the talent that Dean and Justin bring to the table we think this will be enough. Team Ordemann also has some championship game experience. Jake Gavel lost in the finals last year as a part of Team Gavel and will not want to repeat the performance he gave in that game.
We believe this game will come down to boards. If Team Ordemann can keep Justin off the offensive glass and hit the boards themselves then they might have a chance to win the Cup, but if they let Justin grab the few misses Dean has, then they will certainly struggle to keep up with the amount of points Team Tornaritis can put up.

Semi- Finals Results
Tornaritis 45 over McNamara 40
This was a hard fought match but Dean was able to take the reigns of the game late and pull out the win. Team McNamara struggled from beyond the arc which was their main source of offensive production this season. Brian Scott did his best to keep them in it but he did not have enough support around him to get the win. Justin Flanagan had one of his best games of the season but still struggle to finish at the rim. In fact former varsity teammate Gavin Keough was seen shaking his head in disgrace after Flanagan missed a wide open transition layup. If Justin can figure it out for the last game of the season than we might as well call the finals now.
Ordemann 44 over Forbes 41
This was a back and forth, tight game throughout but in the end Team Ordemann was able to get to the free throw with the lead and close the deal. League MVP Will Manzi did not have a great game and his turnovers proved costly. Nate Forbes tried to pick up the slack and he kept Team Forbes in it but in the end he wasn't enough. Pat O'Reilly for Team Ordemann put his team over the top with his excellent post play. He will have to keep up this caliber of play if he wants to help Team Ordemann bring home the hardware.

Semi- Finals Predictions
Tornaritis 52 vs McNamara 45
McNamara has scrapped it's way into the semi finals but we believe the buck stops here. We don't see any favorable match for Team McNamara. Justin is too big for most of Team McNamara and he is more athletic than those who match his size. And Dean is just unstoppable no matter who you are. The only way we see McNamara stealing another one is if Brian Scott and Justin Kavalowskas drop 25 each. If they don't combine for around 50 then we can't see how Team McNamara gets enough points to match Dean. Jack Erickson may be able to provide some offensive relief but as long as Team Tornaritis covers his three ball he is practically useless.
Forbes 52 vs Ordemann 50
On paper Team Ordemann looks to be the superior team but last week they looked horrible and Team Forbes managed to hold onto a win despite having only 4 players on the floor. Manzi will be a handful for even senior leader Nick Poitras. And Forbes may be able to bully his way into the post depending on how aggressive Jake Gavel can be. We think this game will come down to the three point line. If Team Ordemann can keep up with Manzi (Team Forbes only real threat) from beyond the arc then they will have a good chance to advance to the finals. But if not, Manzi and Forbes should be able to lead their team to victory.

Rec Ball Times
Obituaries
Team Coveno
-This Team was the disappointment of the league. Their roster was set up for success but they could not figure out how to manufacture points. Their defense was the second best in the league which kept them in games but they could not hit enough shots to make a playoff run. May we pay our respects to the seniors on the team. As their rec careers come to a close let us pay our respects to what they brought to the game. Adam Scott for his vicious swats. Zack Gavel for his money shots. Liam Brown for his hustle and heart. Aidan Huff for his inability to dribble without carrying. And Zach Coveno for his coaching and his charge drawing ability.
Team Estes
-This Team was the biggest favorite in the league. They had shooters all over the court and atheletes throughout. They were known for their massive blowouts and deadly range. Without any seniors on the roster they all will have a chance to bring home some rec hardware next season, but for most of them this was probably their best shot.
Team Dawson
-This was the scrappiest team in the league. They didn't have a lot of superstars but they did what they needed to do to get wins. Coach Dawson is as sharp as they come and always gave her team the best chance at winning. May we pay our respects to the senior in the team, Mark Maloomian. As his rec career comes to a close let us remember him for his cellies, even on layups.
Team Booth
-This Team was the most underrated team all year. They fought hard, played as a team and got all the 50/50 balls. May we pay our respects to the seniors on the team; Jacob Hickman and Jack O'Neal. As their rec career come to a close let us remember them for their crazy finishes around the net (Hickman) and the intensity brought to every game (O'Neal).

Baller of Round 2
Dean Tornaritis wins Baller of the round once again. Dean put up 27 in his big win over Team Estes. Although we didn't get to see the game, knowing Dean he most likely handled the game on both ends of the court. He is making a strong case for playoff MVP but he still has two games to go before we can't guarantee anything.
Playoff Results- Round 2
McNamara 40 over Coveno 32
Team Coveno played good defense again but their offense well short on them again. Both Scott brothers fought back and forth and had good games but the range of Brian out lasted the drive of Adam. Team McNamara is putting together quite the cinderella story here. As the 12th seed, they have now reached the semis but they're up against Team Tornaritis next week and it will certainly be tough to continue the run.
Tornaritis 48 over Estes 37
DOWN GOES GOLIATH! Team Tornaritis has taken down the 1 seed in a major upset! After the game, players on Team Estes complained about the refereeing, but in this game they might have a case. Team Estes had 23 fouls to Team Tornaritis' 12 (or 8 depending on the source). Despite this, it's still on Team Estes to get the W. Just ask Team Forbes how it's done.
Ordemann 27 over Booth 22
In one of the ugliest games in rec ball history, Team Ordemann escaped Hickman and company. Team Booth missed too many shots late to hold onto the win. Team Ordemann will have to play better than this if they hope to beat Team Forbes on friday night.
Forbes 56 over Dawson 54
This game had one crazy finish. Nate Forbes and Will Manzi both fouled out with 4 minutes to go and a 7 point lead. And then Jake Scharn fouled out with about 2 minutes left. This left Team Forbes with 4 players on the court against Team Dawson's 5. But despite this obvious advantage, Team Dawson could not figure it out late and Team Forbes pulled out the W. Nick Perry played his roll getting a late technical foul for slamming the ball down after getting disagreeing with a foul call. This led to free throws and a 4 point lead for Team Forbes. AND THEN Cam Battles hit a late "and one" lay up giving Team Dawson life. Battles preceded to miss the rim in his attempt for a put back and Team Forbes was able to run out the clock on the following inbound play. Team Forbes will need to watch the foul trouble on Friday night because Team Ordemann will not hesitate to step on their throats given the opportunity.
