2011-2012 Highlight Video

Another regular season is in the books. Playoffs start after vacation!

Baller of the Week: Weeks 7 & 8

Baller of the Week for Week 7 is Matt Ferro. Matt netted 24 against DeLuca in a big win for Saraceno.  Matt will have to continue to play at this rate for Saraceno to be successful. Smith and Ferro need to demand the ball and Roper has to pass it. Another big contender for Baller of the Week was Patrick Stevens who had 16 first half points and finished with 20 points in a win over Dianne Dawson’s team. Congrats Matt Ferro.

Week 8's Baller of the Week Award goes to Rick Liebold who scored 22 points in a five-point win for Team Wright over Team Debreceni. Rick was clutch down the stretch to secure the win for his team. Team Wright hasn’t had the Liebold’s together too much so they may be poised for an upset in the playoff’s if Rick can play like this. Congrats to Rick for the last Baller of the Week winner in the regular season and let the playoffs begin. Good luck to everyone!

Scores: Week 8

Leave any scores/stats/info in the comment section.  Also check out the game pick for Sunday morning's Wright vs. Debreceni game in the post below.

Stevens 55 Stewart 51
Hegeman Jarboe
Walsh Saraceno
Wright 53 Debreceni 48

Game Picks: Week 8

Saraceno vs. Walsh
Prediction: Walsh 55 Saraceno 52

Walsh put up a number last week, becoming the first team all season to eclipse the 70 point mark.  Now they must avoid a let down against a struggling Team Saraceno.  The guard matchup of Ben Walsh and Tom DeNatale against Matt Ferro and Doug Smith should be fairly balanced, so the real difference in the game should be down low.  For Team Saraceno, Matt Foster should be able to hold his own, but I expect Jake Wertheimer and Mark Shea to help Team Walsh squeak out a close victory.

Hegeman vs. Jarboe
Prediction: Jarboe 58 Hegeman 56 (OT)

This should be the matchup of the week, with each team having a record of 5-2.  Jarboe loves to play uptempo, while Hegeman has the size advantage down low.  Brandon Orlando has been somewhat inconsistent in some games, but when he really comes to play he can be a monster on the boards.  However, I think Jackson Jarboe can neutralize him enough to allow Pete Ellerkamp to lead his troops to a hard fought victory.

Stevens vs. Stewart
Prediction: Stevens 62 Stewart 52

Alex Dhionis will need to have a huge game if the Stewies are going to upset Team Stevens.  That means that Team Stewart will have to dictate the tempo by slowing down Team Stevens' relentless offensive attack and defensive pressure.  Although Willy Stewart has had success against this team in the past (he made a game winning and-one in the final seconds of last year's matchup) I think Team Stevens will be able to continue their winning ways and get revenge on Team Stewart from last year's heartbreaker.

Stark vs. K Dawson
Prediction: K Dawson 51 Stark 26

List of biggest sports upsets ever:
1.) Stark defeats K Dawson
2.) USA beats USSR in "Miracle on Ice"
3.) Red Sox comeback from 3-0 series deficit to beat Yankees

D Dawson vs. Naughton
Prediction: Naughton 44 D Dawson 40

Naughton has been hot recently and come into this game looking to improve their record to an even 4-4 and finish the regular season with a respectable .500 record.  On the other side, Diane Dawson's team is going in the opposite direction without top pick Conor Enright.  Chaz Hallock and Cedric Wirta will need to step up their games if Team Dawson is going to stop their skid. For Team Naughton, Matt Hanagan presents a huge matchup problem, as I don't think that Mitch Dawson has the agility to prevent him from driving to the basket.  With Hanagan inside I would expect the three point arc to open up, so you might see Greg Naughton or Danny Kessler hit a few threes to give Team Naughton the edge.

Mahan vs. DeLuca
Prediction: DeLuca 45 Mahan 39

Team Mahan is feeling good after pulling off a huge overtime win last weekend against Team D Dawson.    They have underperformed so far this year, and I think they might be getting hot just in time for the playoffs.  Team DeLuca has also shown flashes of potential this season, but failed to put it all together for a prolonged period of time.  I think this is a very big game in terms of momentum for each team as they prepare for the postseason.  That being said, I believe Team DeLuca will get it done in the end.  Tim Boudreau should present a problem for Ben Icenogle with his physicality, while iMac and Tim Grove should be able to out hustle Griffin Modzelewski and co.

Wright vs. Debreceni
Prediction: Debreceni 43 Wright 38

The key matchup of this game is down in the post, where the physical Kyle Karaska takes on the finesse and athletic AJ Wright.  I think it would benefit Team Wright to play some full court press and try to take away the advantage that Karaska gives Team Debreceni in the half court, but I'm not sure that they will end up doing this, based on the way I've seen them play in the past.  Ultimately I expect Karaska to cause the defense to collapse inside, leaving Kieleczawa open for a few threes on the perimeter that will be the difference in the end.

Walsh vs. Stewart Game Action

Mr. Dave Stewart put this video together for the Week 2 Walsh vs. Stewart game, enjoy.  Thanks Dave!

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Scores: Week 7

-Ben Icenogle banked in a three pointer at the end of regulation for Team Mahan, sending the game to overtime, where they would ultimately defeat Team Hegeman.
-Team Walsh scored what might be the most points in a game since the days Ryan Langell and the Hill brothers of Team Debreceni two years ago.
-Patrick Stevens' sixteen first half points led Team Stevens to a win in a clash of two 5-1 teams.

Stevens 60 D Dawson 50
Mahan 44 Hegeman 41 (OT)
Jarboe Stark
K Dawson Wright
Walsh 73 Debreceni 51
Naughton Stewart

Game Picks: Week 7

Stevens (5-1) vs D Dawson (5-1)
Prediction: 55-42 Stevens
Stevens will have tough task this week to rebound after their loss. Dawson has no ball handlers and the guard play of Doug Rosa and Patrick Stevens will be able to dominate the game. The full court press will definitely be utilized against Dawson so someone needs to step up to bring the ball up the court besides Mitch. Mitch is going to have a huge game for Dawson to get past.

Walsh (3-2) vs. Debreceni (2-4)
Prediction: 50-35 Walsh
I'm picking Walsh to keep on rolling against Debreceni in a easy win. The depth of Team Walsh is much better than Team Debreceni and Ben Walsh will be able to contain Alex Kilieczawa, and the combo of Pfenn and Wertheimer will hold Karaska to not do too much damage. Mark Shea and Tom DeNatale will have easy matchups and I expect them to take over.

Jarboe (4-2) vs. Stark (0-6)
Prediction: 40-20 Jarboe
Ryan Sheehan hasn’t showed up to help his team at all, but at this point I don’t even think it would help at this point. Jarboe plays great defense and they have been pretty consistent the whole year. The only way I can see a win is if Stark as a team can step up defensively against Jarboe.

Wright (2-4) vs. K Dawson (6-0)
Prediction: 55-35 K Dawson
I see the K Dawson train to keep on going this week against Wright. In the first half against Stark Wright struggled and was only up by a few points at the break. That is just flat out embarrassing especially Stark without Ryan Sheehan. Dawson’s depth is top notch and there is no way Wright slows them down.

Stewart (2-4) vs. Naughton (2-4)
Prediction: 45-38 Naughton
Naughton has won a couple straight now and maybe they will be able to figure out how to win consistently. Hanagan will be able to draw out Dhionis away from the paint or Matt will have open shots. If Dhino comes out it will open up lanes for Greg Naughton and Ryan Doody. Naughton will be able to manage a third consecutive win.

Hegeman (5-1) vs. Mahan (2-3)
Prediction: 55-42 Hegeman
After Hegeman’s first loss they have been a top team in the league. The depth of Orlando, Longo, Hourani, and O’Hara is really good. Especially how B-Ice doesn’t come, I don’t even know if Griffin is still on the team. Matt Werner and Dan Mcguiness will not be enough to get by against Hegeman.

Saraceno (1-5) vs. DeLuca (2-4)
Score: 52-48 Saraceno
This is a great matchup for Saraceno, Tim Grove will have to go against Roper and Ferro in the Game and Doug Smith will be against Macpherson too. There won’t be a good matchup against either Ferro or Roper and they will be able to stretch the floor. I see Saraceno barely pulling this one out.

Standings & News

I'm working on updating the standings but I am missing a two games.  Does anyone know who won the Walsh vs. Mahan game in Week 6, or the Naughton vs. Mahan game in Week 5?  If you have a score that would be great, but more importantly I just need to know who won so I can accurately update the standings.  Please leave a comment if you know the outcomes of these games.

Also, Mr. Stewart created a video compilation of the Walsh vs. Stewart battle from Week 2, which I plan to upload on Saturday.  I will also put something together that includes the video that I took a two weeks ago.  Game picks will be up around 6 or 7 tonight, so stay tuned...

Baller of the Week: Week 6

There were a couple of contenders for Baller of the Week this week. One was Ryan Dawson who didn’t have a huge game but really contributed to Dawson’s success down the stretch.  However, Stevens should have had Freiter still in the game and did not have Patrick Stevens for a majority of the game.  Ultimately, I decided to give Baller of the Week to Peter Ellerkamp. Pete had 18 points in an overtime win against Team Stewart. He played great defense the whole game and had 10 out of 12 points at half for Team Jarboe. Pete willed his team to victory and hopefully his success will continue the rest of the season for Team Jarboe.
