Game Picks: Week 6

K Dawson vs Stevens
Score: 45-42 K Dawson
This is the Prime time Sunday game this week 10:15 at Middle School North if people want to take a look at the two unbeatens. I think it will live up to the hype. Dawson will not underestimate Freiter and will be able to control him. Dawson was able to get Ryan Dawson back who will have an impact controlling the paint against Josh Cogswell. The bench for Dawson is just so deep, look for little Cotoni to have a huge role in the game and lead them to victory.

DeLuca vs D Dawson
Score: 48-45 Dawson
Mitch better be ready to play this week because DeLuca gives them a tough matchup. DeLuca played very poorly last week but Dawson has no one that can match up the guard play of Timmy Grove. However Macpherson needs to step up for DeLuca for them to be a successful team. I think Grove will have a big game but it’s tough to be a one man show. The depth of Marken and Wirta will be good for Dawson. Dawson wins a close one.

Stewart vs Jarboe
Score: 40-30 Jarboe
This will be a good game but Stewart hasn’t been playing well as of late. There only real offense is Alex Dhionis and he will be seeing double teams all day when in the post. Jackson Jarboe is going to have to Step up on both ends of the floor against Dhionis. But the floor generals Peter Ellerkamp, Matt Aumais, and Mike Murphy will be able to control the game and get the win.

Walsh vs Mahan
Score: 55-42 Walsh
Mahan has been like Jeckyl and Hyde this season when they actually have their core players at the game they have been successful. But Griffin Modz has been transparent and looks like he’s giving up on the season and a run for a rec championship. Walsh played well against Jarboe last weekend with some questionable reffing. But Tom Denatale is a very underrated  player and is a great shooter, I saw that first hand last weekend. With Ben controlling the floor with Mark Shea chalk up another win for Walsh

Hegeman vs Debreceni
Score:55-40 Hegeman
Hegeman pulled out a close win last week, and is riding a 4 game win streak against Debreceni’s 2 game win streak. Hegeman looks like a real competitor and I don’t see Deb putting up much of a fight. The depth of Hegeman is just to great for Deb to pull of this one.

Naughton vs Stark

Score: 35-25 Naughton
You could say this is Ryan Sheehan vs Matt Hanagan because that’s going to be the majority of points. Stark has just been pitiful all season and believe or not Naughton actually may have more depth than Stark. Ryan will have to really motivate his teammates to be better to pull this off.

Saraceno vs Wright
Score 52-40 Saraceno
Saraceno fought hard last week bringing it down to the last second without Dan Roper. This is a real contender with Doug, Ferro, and Roper leading the team. They will be able to outmatch Wright, AJ hasn’t played great and the two Liebolds are never their together at one time. Saraceno will take this easily.

Baller of the Week: Week 5

The Week 5 Baller of the Week goes to one of the best players all season: Nick Freiter.  He has put up 20 points already a few times in this season, while carrying Team Stevens to an undefeated record of 5-0. He recorded 25 points against Team DeLuca in an impressive win. A couple other notables were Tom DeNatale who had a great game against Jarboe and Alex Marken with 23 points against Wright. People need to start paying attention to Freiter and I think Kurt Dawson will have his team prepared for the big game this weekend. Congratulations Freit-Train!

Team Stevens vs. Team DeLuca Game Action

Took this video of the game today. I also have a few more highlight clips from the second half that I will try to put together with some music when I get a chance. For now, check these two out.

Scores: Week 5

Team Stevens was led by Nick Freiter who scored the games first 12 points, as his team jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first four minutes. Freiter finished with 25 points. I have some video that I took at the game, which I will upload shortly. Please leave scores/stats in the comment section!

Stevens 57 DeLuca 26
Hegeman 52 Saraceno 51
Debreceni 26 Stark 15
KDawson (by 5) Stewart

Walsh Jarboe

***TIME CHANGE***

In order to accomodate coaches who coach multiple teams, the time of the Debreceni/Stark game has flip flopped with that of the D-Dawson/Wright game. The new times are as follows:

Debreceni vs. Stark @ 9:20am (LA)
D-Dawson vs. Wright @ 10:40am (LA)

Game Picks: Week 5

Walsh (2-2) vs Jarboe (3-1) -- Sunday, 10:15am @ MSN
The Pick: 45-42 Jarboe

I think this is going to be a very close game. The x-factor will be Jacob Wertheimer for Team Walsh. If he can stay out of foul trouble he can be a very effective player, blocking shots and rebounding the ball. However, I just can’t see him staying out of trouble. Jarboe has Ellerkamp, Markham, and Jarboe. It will be a close one but I think Jarboe pulls it out in the end.

Naughton (1-3) vs Mahan (1-3) -- Saturday, 8:00am @ LA
The Pick: 45-40 Mahan

Mahan had an awful performance against Team Stevens last weekend only scoring 16 points. However, B-Ice and Matt Werner did not play in the game. Werner will be available this week and hopefully B-Ice will show up. Team Naughton is one dimensional with Hanagan as their only reliable scoring option. If B-Ice makes an appearance this one won’t be too close.

K Dawson (4-0) vs Stewart (2-2) -- Saturday, 8:00am @ LA
The Pick: 55-35 K Dawson

Maybe the split of Dawson was the benefit towards Kurt Dawson’s team. They have dominated this season and I don’t see much changing this weekend especially now with the presence of big Ryan Dawson down low for rebounding and shot blocking. He will be a great matchup for Dhionis and Estabrook should be able to stop Bunis. But the story for Dawson is that everyone contributes on the team, and I think may have the best depth in the league.

D Dawson (3-1) vs Wright (1-3) -- Saturday, 9:20am @ LA
The Pick: 50-35 D Dawson

I think Dawson will be able to regain form against a struggling Team Wright. Dawson lost a close one to Jarboe by seven. Yet, to really but a strangle hold on Dawson you need to full court press them with Mitch as their only ball handler. I just do not see the perimeter defenders for Wright to accomplish that. Mitch will have to step up in Enright’s absence but Mitch’s attitude may hurt his team because he is quoted as saying, “Our team is nothing without Conor.” It might not hurt them in this type of game but it may when the play a greater opponent.

Stevens (4-0) vs DeLuca (2-2) -- Saturday, 9:20am @ LA
The Pick: 50-48 DeLuca

I’m predicting Team Stevens' first loss this week against Team DeLuca. I think team DeLuca matches up very well against Stevens, with Tim Grove and Tim Boudreau. I just don’t see a good matchup for Stevens on Ian Macpherson. He will be the x-factor, and I think he may even have a baller of the week type of performance. When Ian is on fire he is impossible to stop. It should be the priority of Tim Grove to get him going early and look for him in the post.

Hegeman (3-1) vs Saraceno (1-3) -- Saturday, 10:40am @ LA
The Pick: 55-50 Hegeman

Hegeman has been on fire as of late winning their last three games after dropping their first game of the year. Hegeman just has too many weapons to go against Saraceno, including the week 3 Baller of the Week in Brandon Orlando, so unless Team Saraceno can get Longo and Austin Hourani in foul trouble or of their game I don’t see them pulling this off.

Debreceni (1-3) vs Stark (0-4) -- Saturday, 10:40am @ LA
Score: 40-25 Deberceni

It looks like Debreceni could be going on a two game win streak this week when they run through Team Stark. Stark has been so ineffective this season to score without Ryan Sheehan. I can see Stark maybe pulling off an upset if Ryan has a massive game, but I believe Debreceni's Karaska and Kieleczawa will be able to put them away.

Power Rankings: Week 4

Team K Dawson rises to the top with the loss by D Dawson. Looking ahead, if both teams take care of business this week, the top two teams in this weeks power rankings will battle it out to determine who is number one next Sunday!

1.) K Dawson (4-0) [+1]
2.) Stevens (4-0) [+1]
3.) Jarboe (3-1) [+2]
4.) Hegeman (3-1) [+2]
5.) D Dawson (3-1) [-4]
6.) DeLuca (2-2) [-2]
7.) Walsh (2-2) [+2]
8.) Saraceno (1-3) [-1]
9.) Stewart (2-2) [+2]
10.) Mahan (1-3) [-2]
11.) Naughton (1-3) [-1]
12.) Debreceni (1-3) [+1]
13.) Wright (1-3) [-1]
14.) Stark (0-4) [--]

Baller of the Week: Week 4

It was a tough decision this week but I think the biggest upset may have gone to Team Debreceni over Team DeLuca, so I am giving the Baller of the Week Award to Kyle Karaska. Other contenders for Baller of the Week were Peter Ellerkanp with 14 points, who led his team in a win over undefeated Diane Dawson. Another contender was teammate of Karaska, Alex Kieleczawa who had 16. However, Kyle Karaska had a monster day in a game that I didn’t think Team Debreceni had a chance of getting their first win in. Congrats Kyle Karaska!

50,000 Page Views

We went over 50,000 page views this weekend, and I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone for reading this blog.  Never in a million years would I have thought that it would become what it has.  Without you guys making it so popular, I wouldn't have been able to write my college essay about it (and thus get into the best sport management program in the country at UMass) and put it on the top of my résumé (which has gotten me several internship interview opportunities).  It has honestly showed me that you should make a career out of doing what you love.

This website honestly means a lot to me and I apologize that we have struggled with a lack of content recently, but I want to thank Matt Aumais for stepping up and taking the lead.  I hope you all continue to read the site, and I hope we can offer bigger and better things in the future.

Thanks,

PJ

Game Picks: Week 4

Wright vs Naughton: Saturday, 8:00am @ LA Court 1
Score: 44-42 Naughton
I think Naughton will be able to achieve their first victory of the season against Team Wright. Team Naughton has Matt Hanagan and it will be tough to match up with him. Hanagan will be able to create opportunities for the shooters Naughton and Kessler and they will pull out a close win.

DeLuca vs Debreceni: Saturday, 8:00am @ LA Court 2
Score: 55-35 DeLuca
Debreceni will have another tough task on hand, playing against Team DeLuca. Karaska and Macpherson will be a good matchup but there is no one who can keep up with Tim Grove. The depth of Team Deluca will be too much to handle and will translate to a win.

Saraceno vs K Dawson: Saturday, 9:20am @ LA Court 1
Score: 52-50 Saraceno
I think this may be the first loss to K Dawson this year. Doug Smith may have a big game and will be able to shut down Joey Stewart. The relentless defense of Dan Roper and Matt Ferro should be able to control the perimeter, and Doug will create three-point opportunities for Ferro and Roper too.

Walsh vs Hegeman: Saturday, 9:20am @ LA Court 2
Score: 55-45 Hegeman
Team Hegeman’s depth is unbelievable with O’Hara, the Hourani’s, Longo, Orlando, and J.P. This team will be able to control the paint and open up the floor for Austin Hourani to hit shots. I think as long as Longo doesn’t get into foul trouble it won’t be too close of a game.

D Dawson vs Jarboe: Saturday, 10:40am @ LA Court 1
Score: 52-48 Dawson
This will be Dawson’s first test without Conor Enright and I think they will just pull it out. The depth of Dawson will be able to outlast Jarboe’s fast pace offense. I think the key is to slow down Jarboe and put them in the half-court offense where they really struggle.

Mahan vs Stevens: Saturday, 10:40am @ LA Court 2
Score: 52-45 Stevens
With Griffin Modz with a bad thumb and Matt Werner on crutches they will not be able to match up well against the big three Patrick Stevens, Doug Rosa, and freshman sensation Nick Freiter. They will be able to push the pace and tire out the inside presence of Icenogle, and the Twin Towers.

Stewart vs Stark: Sunday, 10:15am @ MSN
Score: 50-30 Stewart
If Ryan Sheehan doesn’t show up it may be even worse, however Stark is going to have to get Scott Delforte involved down low and on the perimeter where he is an excellent three-point shooter. Stewart will still be able to dominate this matchup.
